This -- the reason to be striking as Americans want -- its -- -- -- this holiday week big labor holding big strikes some of the busiest shipping ports in America this week so.

Those strikes continually and -- blocking some holiday gifts from making it under your tree and disrupt this important money making shopping season.

All of a -- I'm Cheryl Casone welcome to cash NN.

-- tech -- this week we have Wayne Rogers Jonathan Hoenig Tracy Byrnes and John Layfield and joining us.

But image in my Bob -- miles up all of you a taste -- what is the start again this all these actions were seeing at the ports in the West Coast -- even as they get a rat.

To retailers' Christmas is right around -- quarter.

I -- -- I mean -- is used this season to take their numbers from the red into the black this is their bread and butter.

So anything that gets in the way could hurt them and as a result her and then.

-- jobs hurt the economy I mean you see what's happening with our four twinkie at hostess and all the poor people that make them.

They are out of a job because of union workers who are demanding more.

You know not -- -- you have a job right now -- you know what -- at the same time if you look at the Thanksgiving.

But basically to New Year's because he got the after Christmas sales mean this is the Super Bowl for retailers for profit.

And these unions know that -- in the timing is a little erupting thing.

I don't -- It that way I did that that that timing is off because if you don't have merchandise in the store right now you you can't sell and I mean for the holiday season.

What happened on Black Friday on what happens going full -- in two that Christmas season.

All of that merchandise has to be here you have to have ordered that months ago and if you don't have their merchandise so they strike tonight when I heard that what does -- Dell is things like though the Wal-Mart -- protest.

That could hurt shopping that definitely could.

And it's as far as that bit at the port give all that has -- -- -- -- question the Port Authority themselves for example in Oakland is not necessarily behave.

Although the FTI -- one of the most notorious unions you know -- calling strikes like this.

But yeah -- did the same time I mean certainly labor has a right to have their voice and they get things that they have issues with the that it health care pay but at the same time they're choosing.

America's holiday season.

To get their message across and put their their employers.

On the spot do you think of that kind of -- -- the sentiment against the unions a little -- -- it.

Could well it's not necessary the best.

But historically.

What has a very much more exploited during tough times -- like -- -- the rise of unions during the Great Depression.

I miss.

This pool program is that while.

They have been apparent it employs violating California State -- there's a question mark and we took him back -- -- its union insightful.

That could be a problem.

You know the dot -- -- -- mention the Port of Oakland and you talk about problems I -- 6%.

Of all US goods are actually traffic -- the Port of Oakland it's a huge -- -- point obviously from Asia the shipping of goods and meet all of that distract.

Tremendous trade -- -- -- -- and the economy is hurt but of course Cheryl that's their point that's the end point -- there is doing -- -- just -- exact point to cause destruction.

The cause -- to hurt the economy.

And I tell you they have every right to strike but I think the employer has every right to kick their asses to the curb.

I mean you have no right to a job at any wage and I job with a mutually agreeable trade the employers offering a job and if you've played as a blanket.

The -- John do you think that this is bad enough for the economy overall I mean -- still precarious position a lot of -- -- discussion anybody we're still a rough waters here.

Now that got the studio.

Yeah -- show -- they.

It could be bad for economy I think -- right they are have their merchandise that this is not going to affect Thanksgiving this anonymous shopping season is not a -- Christmas most likely.

But you look at history.

And 1948 we -- five million union workers on strike it absolutely crippled the economy the Taft Hartley act was what brought about the economic boom along with a lot of returning soldiers the bad Taft Hartley -- of breaking of the union street -- that -- that Eisenhower had.

Was one of the biggest booms -- that we've had in our history.

If this goes forward it's not the average union -- lakers -- go to work these union heads.

This could hurt the economy.

But also to you know when Tracy made the point about the retailers this -- -- -- also hurt the consumer as well I mean -- consumer spending the economy needs that right now.

And again economists looking to be holiday shopping season to get those big numbers out but -- -- -- I'm gonna tell you I'm the last minute shopper and I disagree completely that they have everything in for the season there's no way they could.

Stuff comes -- it down to the wire in so many stores especially your small businesses and you -- I'm looking for the day before when I generally get out there unfortunately.

I'm not I -- -- that hurts the overall economy.

And look again with the unions what are you doing and people are dying for jobs and -- basically treatment.

It's like it's coming to throw away and it's -- it's -- -- to your point why the only place that they're growing is it is within the municipal sector because I think the private sector is coming -- -- learned their lead from steelworkers and -- automobiles.

Airlines and education and to your point twinkies as well.

You know high image and I'm curious what you think the bald as a mean historical lack British -- which everyone one away adding you can just talk and respond with the accident but the same time and you.

Of all of us we were saying this big speech is seen -- to -- well.

In this country when it comes to organized labor well Christie sides to every story and that's got to be -- sacrifice them by fronts -- -- as an employee's as far as -- -- -- the management didn't keep up with the times.

They will -- taking huge bonuses at a time when accompanied with -- -- -- sides to every story and everybody's in it to get back but the time -- do you think all of America that -- that she.

And if it's and shared sacrifice.

-- between an employer and employee it's a trade it is something in it for both of them.

And if the employers not -- certainly think that's the district of unions in this country pushing -- -- a wage levels up to unsustainable wages which leads isn't -- case of loss of all the jobs.

It can happen at the port to and I think -- traces point.

Push up costs for everybody.

I wait at the same time and -- back to the issue of goods admitted being shipped through those two crucial ports on the west -- -- mean this is what you know we're talking up a holiday season right now.

But this could have far reaching effects and the next year and we still see this type of organized labor disruption continue.

Into 2013.

Well it could that that part is true going forward but all due respect try to I don't think anybody any merchant.

Has not a lot of all of his stuff for and had and taken delivery of that stuff by now.

If you wait till the last minute to shop you're not gonna get it not because it wasn't -- -- and not because it wasn't the store that's because somebody else bought it.

It's already they -- believe me if you got any sense at all running a business and we run some.

We bought up all of that stuff that's all done but you know you come back to this point -- badly unions I'm just disappointed that we we didn't discuss more about the -- situation because that.

Mexican firm bimbo was gonna -- twinkies and Jonathan could have done a whole piece on bimbo twinkies and.

That's what I guess.

We're trying to discourage you -- and -- repeating once again on this -- I don't know if we don't know.

-- -- -- -- -- -- Don't -- -- -- -- -- allows for on all of us I mean like you know again what we've got you know -- the next month is crucial for these retailers big big this is they're Super -- Didn't the next month is crucial that we want to differentiate between the average union worker that carries his lunch pail to work every single day he deserves the benefit that he has promised.

The probably have is with the union heads and there's a reason that they've gone from 40%.

Back in the fifties doubts about single digits right now it's because they are ineffective they are contrary to business.

And I believe there as crooked as the politicians who have given them too many benefits in the municipal sector.

All right guys great discussion thank you -- that --
