There are many people in need this holiday season and our men and women fighting abroad are often on that list.

Some troops on the battlefield -- -- proper supplies things like night vision binoculars and grenade pouches.

Now last week you'll remember we launched our holiday helping segment with a look at how the Red Cross is helping those hit by -- -- sandy and -- weekend.

We're joined by lieutenant colonel Eric Agilent founder of one of our favorite charities and your first -- Troops need a year which works to get our troops that things they need -- -- -- you for coming back Shanker and he back then and what we always like to tell what's what's so unique about what you do is that there are a lot of great charities that -- care packages and things that are are always welcomed by our troops but you gonna find out specific needs of what our guys and gals out -- need.

And make sure they get that's -- tell us a little bit about what you have here and I understand this is a focus on Afghanistan.

That's right yes -- what we say is let's go beyond a care package -- I -- Iraq and Afghanistan there is off thousands of care packages -- around.

And and also going out with units that had specific mission needs equipment that they need -- their mission.

I they need for survival in a lot of cases that they don't have for various reasons.

And so I thought well let's let's channel that time and energy -- care packages into getting and the mission.

Essential supplies and equipment that they need so right now we're sporting.

Marines and in western Afghanistan a gunnery sergeant contacted us that hey I've got 115 men there -- ten different -- these are really remote outpost.

A lot of them don't have the perimeter security that they need.

And so what they have it to see at night is just their night vision.

But you know helmet mounted system.

Which is really designed for what's called close quarters combat -- inside house are very close range because.

It doesn't you can't see very far with it so the folks who you know on the other side of the wires that adversaries that are out there they know how far they need to walk away from -- -- that we can't see him.

So we're shipping them at their request be specific.

Night vision binoculars.

And so what these enables the troops to -- it look outside -- wire and -- a lot farther than their night vision -- -- night vision system.

And and it allows and to see get a glimpse of who's out there and -- what they're dressed and what they're caring and how many of them there are what direction -- moving what time.

Another things they ask for is and this is.

I this is -- first time we've ever had this request.

But we were we got a request for grenade pouches.

You know they've they've got thirty men thirty Marines who -- grenades in there.

And their unit and what what unfortunately what happened is they were issued these pouches that really weren't designed for grenades so they end up carrying two grenades.

They're bumping up against each other if you're driving around her are who are hiking around Afghanistan on patrol.

You definitely don't want the thought of having -- -- -- bumping up there revving up against each other so.

Proper grenade colleges are another thing we're shipping at their quest -- a whole.

List of other things we're shipping as an ongoing operation.

And so we get connected through word of mouth and that's a big opportunity for for folks to help us reach -- interest.

We put up the information here because I'm not only can folks help out in our viewers have done that -- very generously in the past but it's important to if you have someone who was serving out their troops need you wants to hear what they need -- -- way -- can -- specific things inevitably via email phone.

Web site for folks in and give us the website again -- troops.

Need you dot com need and edu why don't you dot com and then the phone number of people just wanna call -- my cousin or my nephews and Afghanistan.

It's 188889.

Troops.

And or troops need you at gmail.com I mean this is how it works we don't work you know there's no official channels for this we've been you know praised by the -- -- from the White House to the Pentagon.

But in terms of us actually getting units.

It's it's word of mouth and it's and it's viewers we've had viewers -- of your show Shannon -- you know which I'm grateful for.

Tell us about that -- -- connected with units so all these holidays is a great time to do we can get stuff out to him that they need quickly.

And it's a great time just in time for Christmas they'll along with those care packages that are nice and yummy and things give -- things that they need for their mission their survival -- a great way to Adam.

Absolutely thank you for getting us update it will make sure all information is out there Greek -- creates the chance that.
