Thousands are gathering today in -- -- square protesting a presidential decree that critics say may be turning their new found democracy.

Into a very old fashioned looking at -- dictatorship.

Steve Harrigan joins us now -- streaming live from.

Assisting what's the latest on what's going on there.

Martha this is the largest and angriest crowd of anti presidential protesters we've seen so far.

In the past five days and they're continuing to stream and it's -- square from different points.

Around the city -- are people who think the president has overstepped himself.

By declaring he's acts above the law and above the courts and they are calling for him to come down the chance of violence.

In the crowd is loud this angry in -- country is divided is certainly behind much of the violence now is confined.

The Alley ways around the main section of the crowd that's where the younger protesters.

Are scuffling with police in an effort to reduce the chance of violence.

The president's supporters from the Muslim Brotherhood have canceled the planned -- today to try and keep one side away from the other.

It's so remarkable we saw these scenes when Hosni Mubarak was thrown out of offense.

I and then there was the election and the democracies supposedly.

That put president -- in place and now we've got them those same crowds back into the square.

And they're protesting again -- he -- he made some moves to try to quell all of this.

And compromise a -- -- -- meaningful listing if.

Certainly we are seeing exactly the same scene sometimes exactly the same chance there were used against those who are now being used against the new Egyptian president.

He did attempt to make a move for an appearance at compromise yesterday -- -- some of his critics of the chief judges.

Here in Cairo but it's clear his attempt at trying to reduce this -- his power grab.

It's not being met with any kind of approval by the crowds -- out today.

In much stronger numbers really rejecting any -- that compromise they want him to withdraw -- -- completely.

It's that it never gonna stand here until that happens -- All right -- and really volatile situation that live pictures on the right here.

And you can see the kind of camping out scene that we saw.

During the Arab Spring.

So many people were so excited about the promise of the Arab Spring in the end of the Mubarak regime.

Now when you look at this shot it could have been taken from that moment but now these people are protesting against -- -- Barak.

-- democratically elected.

Muslim Brotherhood leader who is now the president and Egypt is facing the same kind of revolt someone say in the streets so we're gonna keep a close eye on the live developments in Cairo this morning -- thanks to Steve Harrigan who is just.
