-- it is a different attitude for Baseball Hall of Fame now there are 37.

Former ball players up for reconsideration this year for the hall but there are three that are creating.

Quite a buzz Barry Bonds Sammy Sosa.

And Roger Clemens some of the biggest names in the sport ever -- record breakers and all -- accuse it one time abusing steroids.

So do these guys belong alongside the likes of Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth and Willie Mays Steve Phillips is -- former GM of the New York Mets and co host of Kevin in Phillips in the morning weekdays and Sirius XM's mad dog radio nice to see you -- and -- you want and what your position on this.

Well I mean there's a three great players the numbers weren't there be inducted in the hall -- there's no question about that I think that what we have learned so far is that the writers who vote for players to get in.

Have made it very clear if you're tied to before -- enhancement drugs at all.

They do not vote to and so I suspect they won't get the most necessary to deduct you do not believe I don't think we're gonna get voted and I think that should be and I you know I look at the hall of fame is -- a museum to document the history of the game.

And certainly the steroid -- as part of the history of the game and you know they didn't need to be documented in some way and these guys are surely the stars of that area so in my -- They should certainly get it.

Just a more bit more context because when you're the general manager of the New York Mets that this was the steroid -- right 97 through 2002003.

Right in the heart of the -- -- no question about that so I was out there you know we would sit up in the game what the box watching the -- And -- think well maybe that guy may be that -- and I thought maybe 45 players on my team over six years when it used and wanna come to learn to the Mitchell report on the other evidence.

Is that probably more than half the players during this era.

Used performance enhancement drugs -- all at least half I think it probably 75%.

So so yeah maybe -- so if these were the best players of that era why aren't they are worthy of being involved thing but the point is I think with this -- this is the first to list we've had.

Of -- some of them.

Confirmed users others are alleged right who are to be considered.

Right this is a bit of a different game now for the fat -- -- the president -- Rafael Palmeiro tested positive who hasn't gotten in over 500 home -- Mark McGwire hasn't been voted in either so the -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- easily above 20% of the votes so that's not enough enough -- he's a one dimensional player who was all about power and if he enhanced his performance but taking -- become more powerful you can understand his exclusion.

So many people say well you've got Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb you know why should these guys do -- -- those worthy candidates.

What people say steroid users are bad guys -- Ty Cobb wasn't a great guy he was known to be a bigot -- -- racist yet he's in the hall of fame.

-- -- put up great numbers but he.

Played in an -- we did play against the Negro League so you could argue.

His performance was enhanced as well because he didn't play against all of the -- company -- -- -- -- -- Joseph -- again and Joseph DiMaggio.

And Jackie Robinson this -- You're immortal in the sports.

They're hall of Famer still but no question -- we know they they played it clean and many of those players have very strong opinions that anybody who cheated should not be inducted -- comes down to what is the hall of -- In the hall of -- has been reluctant to give any guidance to the baseball writers in their voting.

We'll see you know how should you in some way you look at all -- what perspective should you use what's been up to the writers.

Many of them said a minute -- wait and see approach -- -- -- fifteen years for player about about the ballot let me wait some time for all of this kind of sort itself out.

And maybe a decade from now I'll still be -- most of these guys think it's an important point a lot of folks outside the -- may not realize they are writers who vote.

And they are purist.

In many ways they are -- a guy like Pete Rose.

Accused of gambling he's not -- he's not in in the end it yet there are players who were purist as well.

And I think there are some writers who might look at the numbers and have a -- a little different perspective.

There are a lot of people think they should change the voting may be that former players behind some committee to vote -- -- maybe should be the baseball writers -- a committee that -- come up with a pool players.

I did very unclear and I think that without any guidance I think anybody attached reports this from drugs has -- very -- long shot to get new hall of fame he called the hall of fame an alcoholic -- so I understand where you're coming from.

We'll see Steve Phillips thank you a couple of nice to see you here -- -- like.
