Well we're now learning what went on behind closed doors this meeting at a senate homeland security committee briefing.

On the deadly terror attack on our -- in Libya.

Our next guest is a member of that committee and was inside that room and Wisconsin Republican senator Ron Johnson joins me now senator welcome to the program.

Well Megyn I don't what can you tell us about this morning and what we learned -- the ball get advanced on this investigation in the -- Ghazi Al.

I'll probably slightly -- listen I I came -- from that they're hearing with.

You know basic conclusion that this administration purposefully misled the American public for a couple weeks after that attack and they basically used ambassador -- as -- tool to -- -- -- news programs to do you know of that part of the very large job of that misleading.

-- position while those talk shows and said that in fact.

This was a spontaneous reaction to of course the video.

She knew full well it wasn't in fact there was certainly doubt about that this administration understood very early on.

That this is a terrorist attack that intelligence reports show that it was you probably perpetrated by groups affiliated with al-Qaeda.

They knew this Falwell but for a couple weeks they just purposefully -- misled the American public.

And -- we need to get to the bottom of this and find out -- exactly who directed investor rights to do that.

And -- quite honestly in the end did it he really falls on president of obviously he's going to continue do that they're right up to speech that you and who briefed to use this morning.

We had a number people from the intelligence community as -- -- -- depart Department of Defense is wells a State Department.

And those yesterday or two days ago we had that Kelly -- -- senator on and she talked about how look.

Originally when ms.

rice came to capitol held two days ago to meet with her the CIA acting director who was whether said.

It was the FBI who changed the talking points to remove the reference to al-Qaeda having been the ones behind that attack on our consulate.

And then later in the day they said they got a call from the acting CIA director and his race and they said well that was the wrong information.

It wasn't the FBI changes -- anyways it was us it was the CI OK but she's the talking points.

And there's still a question about -- -- let cool specifically did did has any light been shed on that senator.

Know what they're going to -- -- they're doing internal.

Review of that and they're putting together -- timeline you know exactly who.

Who looked at the talking points who made that change to -- really kind of you.

Reveal that information.

But really -- the real question is who gave those talking points to him master rice who really did direct the entire effort of a change in the narrative -- -- Indiana I think.

What this is all about is this president.

This administration you know -- somebody running for reelection didn't want the narrative that he killed bin Laden.

And that supposedly al-Qaeda was decimated -- They didn't want to change that that narrative let's face they'll -- Qaeda is not decimated and unfortunately it's on the rise and it's it's threatening America.

Let me challenge you on that because they say that's not the only explanation they say we weren't entirely sure that it was al-Qaeda and there was no reason to throw that name out there that early in the ball game and we were still investigating.

And may have had security reasons for not.

Revealing.

All we knew about a possible al-Qaeda link now -- That there were real there was really no -- Issues in terms of revealing intelligence sources or methods by talking about it that and al-Qaeda affiliated group and the fact the matter is as it wasn't in fact.

A spontaneous reaction they didn't know that it was certainly and that's exactly what ambassador rice.

Led the American people to believe that they would certainly thought I was you knew it was a spontaneous and reaction.

-- of course the video when they realized that wasn't a fact that so that's that's where the mislead -- and then again you have to ask yourself why it's because.

President Obama is running for reelection he just didn't -- bus that narrative that yeah he had al-Qaeda on the run.

Then now this.

Is a bipartisan investigation in the senate people forget that that it is not just Republicans on your side of the -- Democrats including some top Democrats.

Have joined in the demands for -- more information on exactly how this all happened.

And how we wound up where we are now what what what are you hearing now from Democrats.

About where we stand in this investigation.

Well again that that they certainly -- I believe they agree to Republicans that the administration did understand very early on that this is probably it terrorist attack.

And they know exactly how they come their conclusions terms of ambassador rice I'm not quite sure.

-- about my concern with ambassador rice being put forward as a nominee for for secretary status you know we need to secretaries of state that is credible.

Not only -- appear on the hill but with the American people and I'm afraid secretary or ambassador rice.

As -- kind of -- that that that level of credibility with American people and I think this produce qualified.

Senator Johnson thanks so much for being here.
