Yeah.

That he linking high fructose corn syrup with an increase of diabetes and the sweetener is commonly used -- Many popular food and drinks and it could be accelerating a global epidemic of the the disease.

Doctor Mark Siegel is a member of the Fox News medical eighteen and professor of medicine at NYU land on medical center here in New York City thanks for joining hands -- see you.

So how -- serving -- a study to you.

Well let's start from this sugar is bad so gross which is our common sugar has both glucose and fructose and now.

We've been worried for a long time that the frock coats could be worse than the glucose why does it tastes so good.

It's just this week but it looks better to use it in baking products it gives you that nice round glow when you're making something.

Everyone thinks it's kind of addictive -- question here that's being raised in global affairs is.

And by the way this study was done both in the United States in California and Oxford so in England -- reached across and it looked at a cross section of different societies it looked at countries around the world 43 countries.

They found the 20% increase in diabetes in countries that were very high in high fructose corn syrup.

Heather some countries don't use that at all other countries like the United States it's huge we use it -- soda pop -- used in practically everything.

And the concern here is does that is that the reason we have such a high rate of diabetes.

How can they attribute that solely to the increase you sent -- tests.

And that's the million dollar question because critics are saying women that you improve anything here Malaysia has a higher rate of diabetes in the United States and doesn't use the stuff at all.

But I'm glad that we're bringing this up because the question is are these chemicals metabolize differently.

What is your body do when -- -- for a toast as it used the same amount of insulin doesn't use something different there's some evidence that it causes more fact of -- over.

One thing for sure this stuff is not healthy sugar is not healthy and struck -- not healthy.

I have you know gone on TV many times saying people should have less calories period and that's -- you lose -- you exercise more.

-- haven't had diabetes epidemic here so I'm -- Come on the show here and say this is good and what's the connection between the -- Well the connection between the two is that it's possible that -- -- even worse than regular sugar that it gets passed -- usually insulin that's coming to the rescue -- comes to the rescue.

And tries to get the sugar into the cells before poisons you and causes and that metabolic syndrome.

Fructose may be even harder for us to handle than regular sugar.

Both are bad for us so I don't want.

People out -- -- doctor Siegel says get away from the fructose let's go back to the sugar I'm not saying that here's what I'm saying to do.

Fructose when it's combined in fiber like -- is really good for you but when it's -- -- -- that when it's Minnesota it's really bad point so.

Stop the soda and -- in the fruit eat the -- eat the apples in the pairs.

That's what you wanna do that's what you wanna see your fructose not artificial -- not in the in the in the in the additives that's not -- you wanna see it that's what I'm concerned about so.

I see this study is an eye opener I don't see it as proof it's one of these population studies were always talking about here you know.

Proof would be to give Heather Brooke goes and gives -- not in front of -- and see which of us you know had assured more -- -- I guarantee it would be -- about it.

I've -- IF AA lakers -- that is one thing that I do and actually try to stick to pensioner of any and that's what I think but crude is fun.

Fruit and fiber is fine.

Exercise cut down on the -- -- calories you know.

We we we can't get a eat a lot more -- this that we need a 10250.

Milligrams of sugar more than we need how we -- and recommended capital we take 55 pounds per person of fructose in the United States a year.

That's enormous all of us are having way too -- -- All right thank you very much doctor Siegel we appreciate it reclusive and for more on this and all the stories that doctor Siegel is covering -- and doctor Davidson body every Sunday on Sunday house call at 10:30 AM eastern time and now find the show -- -- basement dot com slash Sunday.
