Tragic story from over the weekend and investigators are now searching for a motive.
After Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Joseph -- Belcher murdered his girlfriend.
Then drove to the practice facility for the Kansas City Chiefs speaking to his managers and coaches and took his own life there.
During that conversation there were reports of addiction and have alcohol issues.
Before he apparently snapped on Saturday he and his girlfriend Cassandra Perkins.
Leave behind their three month old daughter.
Friends and family were shocked understandably.
And very saddened by this news.
Like somebody -- around here bag and made it.
This -- is heartbreaking because I think.
He was so young -- -- -- value -- -- really hurts to know that somebody.
You grew up with your whole entire life is dead.
So much less intact community.
Obviously he's somebody that they looked up to it she said somebody who made it from their neighborhood he was 25 years old.
-- Perkins was 22 years old.
And we're joined this morning by Jim Gray sports -- and Fox News contributor Jim how -- begin to make sense of this.
Well you can't make sense of the senseless Martha it's it's really tragic -- it's horrible.
Unfortunately really the two people who know what went on.
-- here to tell us about it now.
And I don't know that we're really gonna ever know.
What the circumstances were there apparently are no notes left behind -- no conversations left behind so it's.
Javon -- mother was in the house as well as his -- so perhaps she can shed some light to the authorities.
Yeah I mean she may be able to his friends his teammates may have been.
Privy to some of what was going on it and I.
You know obviously this is a family tragedy and a personal tragedy in our hearts go out to everybody has connected to the Stanley and of course of that.
That three month old baby who will now grow up we understand with -- -- mom.
But you do try to figure out whether or not there's any sort of -- -- football cultural complication here was -- on painkillers.
Was he drinking because of the pain concussions and you know a little bit about whether or not there was a history of that -- Well according to the owner Clark -- -- did speak yesterday before the game he said that there was absolutely at this time.
He had not had a long concussion history was his exact quote.
The medical staff there because of the have -- -- have not spoken -- publicly but.
That he's not listed as having missed any games due to any concussions.
These reports that are circulating out there about -- these other things.
Drinking and addictions they come there.
You know from friends of friends and so on and so forth so I don't put a whole lot of credibility -- -- that because we're not hearing from any of the people we're directly involved in his life that that was the case so.
You know I would caution everybody at this time.
Not to jump into that direction until we have all the information and there's an investigation we know exactly what was going on with him now as far as concussions and playing football it's an issue.
But there's no indication at this time that that was the case that he was suffering from that at this time.
You may think of other stories that could be similarity as you point out we don't know yet whether they are but -- -- -- -- viewers and you know do you think that this is an issue that it's a problem.
Is in the game.
Well there's a lawsuit of several thousand players that is taking place now between the National Football League and its former player so yes there is an issue here and it's going to be adjudicated in the courts.
As to whether or not the NFL knew.
In fact that a lot of these head injuries were taking place.
The problem is is when -- the head injury start -- they started Peewee football that they started high school football where they have.
Going on in college football -- it's tough to pin at all in the National Football League and therefore it's it's difficult to ascertain when all this happens as far as -- and there was some.
Brain damage and and that it causes is tragic death when he when he killed himself junior say out.
The preliminary reports say everything that I've heard -- -- said that there wasn't any brain damage so.
You know this is a very difficult issue for the National Football League.
This is a difficult time for the Kansas City Chiefs and for a obviously domestic violence that can never be condoned and and let's Perkins it is really the victim here do you.
She -- so true.
There's another issue that has come up in all of -- and that is from Bob -- veteran sportscaster.
Who made some personal comments -- in quoting.
Someone else he talked about his own feelings on gun control a lot of play that -- -- -- -- -- -- got a lot of feedback on this this morning.
He wants an actual perspective on this well a bit of it comes from the Kansas City based writer Jason whitlock.
With whom I do not always agree but who today said -- so well that we may as well just quote or paraphrase.
From the end of his article.
Our current gun culture whitlock wrote.
Ensures that more and more domestic disputes we'll -- in the ultimate tragedy.
And that more convenience store confrontations over loud music coming from a car believe more teenage boy's bloodied and dead.
Handguns -- not enhance our safety.
They exacerbate our flaws -- -- to escalate arguments and bait us into embracing confrontation.
Rather than avoiding it.
In the coming days to bond built his actions and their possible connection to football will be analyzed.
Who knows but here -- Jason whitlock.
Is what I believe.
It's -- -- Belcher didn't possess a gun.
He and -- Perkins would both be alive.
You might think about that -- -- gone there.
Well he's allowed to have his opinion just like we all are allowed to have our opinion on the show so yes he's allowed to go there and that's what he does at halftime and Bob -- is a brilliant sportscaster.
And Jason whitlock threat if there's no gun here nobody's dead so I mean I don't know what the issue is.
To take issue with.
I mean we just had a presidential campaign Martha and not one time -- gun control and gun issues come up.
Now I know that they probably don't want to take on these lobbies.
And they're very powerful and very strong.
But we just had a kid go into a theater in Aurora Colorado with semi automatic weapons and start blowing everybody up well if you don't have a bit it doesn't happen.
And nobody who -- the gun in Colorado was there to taken down at the time self.
These are difficult difficult issues that that need to be addressed them as far as this football issue right here yesterday doesn't have a gun.
They're both a -- so I don't have a problem is that right Jim thank you.
And I'd ask everybody at -- -- -- tweet on this -- -- everybody has a lot of thoughts on it some people basically saying that you know where there's -- will.
Unfortunately to kill it finds a way.
And it is a tragedy no matter how you look at it that these two young people who are no longer with us can imagine what that.
True Martha that's what they always say if you have a -- Or if you don't have a gun and you wanna find one in your criminal and your murder you'll find ones so perhaps those arguments are right thank you -- could attacked you this morning again.
