Let's talk a little bit about the economy now -- Wall Street Journal reporting today in the jobs market could be and -- first some significant improvement in the coming year if looking get a deal on the fiscal -- tests they question the Wall Street Journal saying quote the -- -- -- sandy will have to be repaired needing jobs in construction and retail.
This is -- meanwhile which have held off investing and hiring because of insurgency over the fiscal outlook.
Might finally open their wallets and that means more jobs to -- a little bit more optimism potentially.
On the horizon.
But even -- and -- -- jobs marketing and maybe an unpredictable economy.
There are some ways to get ahead and that's why we want to talk to our next guest who knows -- -- -- About that she's a great American success story all her own and joining us now cat called the president.
I've -- about nice to have you on -- thank you very very unique journey to the position that Iraq today yes and it all started.
-- -- -- -- -- -- Yeah I started out like many teenagers -- my first job and malls and restaurants and I got a job -- -- as a hostess and worked my way up and became a waitress and commuters just for a few years and took on any job that came up -- the cooks quit.
I learned how to -- when the managers quit I was able help run chefs and that set me up to start traveling all over the -- opening up new hooters restaurants on.
Consonants outside of North America and get great business exterior of racing you're trying to -- going to college yeah traveling to places like Australia accent -- central and South America had -- at least French I think you're only twenty years old yeah I was nineteen and twenty years old when I was traveling all over the world and trying to.
Pursue my dream of being an engineer and an attorney at the same time traveling globally.
And obviously those two things simultaneously don't really support each other and so I ended up dropping out of college you know a lot of folks are facing that decision right now weathered two.
Get a job and start working or it take on some student loans and put themselves through -- -- Wolf what would your advice -- You know I think the concept pursuit of education is always a path to personal success.
And they are so many avenues to get there may be it's not formal full.
Higher education at this point but certificate programs classes that communities offer.
Development programs that companies offer their employees or their communities to allow people to pursue their education -- short term.
So that as they become a little more stable in their jobs they might be able to afford.
Investing in higher education need to go and I and traditional -- is about to Nazi didn't you know get a college degree that you were able to get your masters.
Degree a business.
And and you said at this point that's been helpful in the position that you're -- absolutely absolutely -- -- You know I did go to college and enjoyed it but had to drop out the travel all over the world and to open restaurants.
Moved up and my company but then realized that getting off formal education and cementing what I have learned in the real world.
On the academic side would really help me be a better leader for global business -- really struck me as -- reading your story -- a daughter a single mom you decided right away that you had to go to work for -- annaly.
And -- -- again is something that really only happens in our country at least see someone come from.
A certain background and then become the present in a major brand down and just curious what you think about the American dream today.
And where we're sort of app with that as a country.
Having -- through so much over the last year I think -- the American dream it is so alive and well it takes on different forms today with.
Lower barriers to entry with technology and people be in being able to start really great companies and concepts.
Companies like mine offer franchise opportunities for people who are retiring and looking for the next phase of their American dream more young people who want to be in business for themselves but not by themselves so it's still.
Alive and well and -- hear.
Pretty often that people say your story is unbelievable and it it's not I know hundreds of people like me who started out in restaurants -- to -- working in kitchens.
Worked their way up and took advantage of the opportunities that businesses in this great country for 52 final questions for you is your company hiring and what about this fiscal -- how big of an issue is that for your company and our company's absolutely hiring all over the world we do business and almost fifty countries so we are fortunate to provide jobs all over the world but definitely in the United States were hiring corporate positions.
Hourly positions -- franchise partners who are the heart of our brands are hiring hourly employees and management employees especially during our busiest time of year.
The retail season to be able to grow the business.
Asked for the fiscal -- It's frightening.
But.
I have to have a level of face and beliefs that our elected officials and currents and growing administration.
Will figure out a way to make sure that we continue to prosper as a country and small business owners like my franchisees.
Still have a strong and productive business climate in which to run their business.
