Now to New Mexico governor Susana Martinez.

Did she -- percent the Republican party's future now she is the first female Hispanic governor.

And now her name coming up as a possible 2016 presidential cabinet.

Over the weekend on the record went to New Mexico to talk one on -- was governor Martinez but first she took -- to have her family's business in El Paso, Texas.

Yeah.

We are at.

That place.

Is now my -- -- this is that this was takes -- security guards in this.

This is where my parents started their business back in the late seventies and if -- were in existence for about 25 minutes and this is.

One property does Texas right -- and yet another new maximum daylight come here but I did they let me get me a little.

This business.

Many Julie we -- to take take take take it when they started the business -- -- there were insane we had those savings speak out and they started out where is the -- security guards.

As my father was here that I was security guard and we had -- -- whether -- was the office.

I'll what's in this office.

At the beginning short of the kids that are house that we -- have this building.

And so I would used to work at media Catholic being done.

In the parking -- nation -- With the cars at -- NN senior managers at the Republican National Convention exposes a little bit -- -- -- my dad was a cop I'm gonna forehead.

Instead he wanted to make sure I had the proper.

Equipment to these pretty nice size that's your divided had eighteen in I have 357 -- -- -- had all Livni to form bad for my parents.

-- -- the parking lot.

Listen and understand businesses where they just announced that sort of feeling business -- -- mother father initially yes because my mother didn't give -- Asia.

My mother continue to work a day job and -- she was an office assistant and then at night at home would do the books for this business.

-- so Wisconsin for her I went to college that you -- during the daytime and then I was a security guard at -- And so my dad course was hustling for the contracts.

Any chance -- happen.

-- -- small business we let them.

I didn't hear about it -- what they get sick to -- at least sounds to me like black he wouldn't work from self I mean he wanted to work for himself than that and be able to.

Decide to make decisions for themselves as to how big or small -- -- this this -- to beat you -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- as it's -- yes -- residents have been some modification thank you Google apparently yes and I wish he had.

-- good sister a bit after I haven't had.

Don't drink but when I don't I don't we have a bit at the -- yeah.

Which.

She always wanted things done heroic group who -- I don't know -- -- anyway yeah and even when she was really young my grandmother.

Labeled her a little nutty stuff which means the little lawyer.

Because she could always talk.

From a very very young age and make a lot of sense.

It's -- -- evening he didn't.

Necessarily get the dog to be -- small business owner that you were involved in the launching the small business.

Seem to have had an -- obviously Stanford student Kelsey doing the secretary want to be president of the student council.

And you.

Until they give us your brother we're at at at at at Aetna at -- at.

Really pulled -- -- I could become a liar.

You know I.

And killer because I thought you had to be a lawyer in order to get into national politics.

Actual I'd be getting the politics since.

Probably as -- -- grade freshman.

I would watch.

The debates.

For the senators the congressman.

Television I think.

-- -- decision that I think I think it would have become something like that and most of whom are lawyers until I thought I had to be a lawyer and so I start down that path.

When I was a freshman there -- two teachers who actually talks and -- -- -- innocent young girls.

And we type records where you -- been five years ten years fifteen years what it what is your plan in life.

And I remember thinking why didn't want to be mayor.

The city.

Because it didn't really have.

A role model beyond that.

This and then -- Y -- just a mayor -- why would you stop there as well.

We know you're not pass -- heat.

Just I just NCAA wanted at a higher level and government.

And they so why not.

You know think about being governor think about being something and Wilson.

And that was -- first time I really thought I I can't I don't have to limit myself.

And back and -- so governor Martinez takes us to the place -- in 2009.

She first announced her run for gov.

Hi this is -- -- made your announcement for governor threw this out.

It's a Democrat didn't you know Republicans -- That -- -- if something happened.

-- we became friends.

Throughout years.

And I was district attorney -- for this extreme is very supportive financially.

Providing food for all my events fans.

I consider a friend I want to also earned the respect.

And the vote of Democrat.

And so I thought this was a perfect place to start to build better bipartisan relationship I wanted -- idea ever became governor there's a lot.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Well because -- but it -- I don't know why it's any different so when changing because.

The law was her first -- because -- wants to increasing number of insured drivers.

They did nothing for the we sell our bottom of the country is hard to ensure drivers and what you're -- about.

And that 2010.

And so what it did was now brought any criminal industry.

NG New Mexico.

Organized crime.

People were charging 2005000.

Dollars.

To be provided -- it's illegal documents.

Fraudulent documents claiming your residence when you're not.

Mom with me as contract for an apartment complex utilities bank records etc.

clearly you know -- you remain.

Your real name is on those documents.

-- -- -- hit driver license and they can change that driver's license for -- -- happens.

You're you're you know under the -- we don't know when your friend.

The law intended was for someone who lived in New Mexico.

And now we have people from all over the world for -- illegally who are paying to get that Mexico driver's license from the new.

And straight ahead -- -- governor Susanna Martinez is she planning to make you run for the White House in 2016.

Just back from New Mexico and now -- more of the State's Republican governor Susanna Martinez.

Senator Harry Reid said in 2010 when you're running.

His son was also running for governor in Nevada he says I don't know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican.

But you know kind of disappointed anyone would think and that -- we're not independent thinkers.

I'm an independent think.

I am a woman -- -- a Republican.

And diet.

Think for myself and I decide where I voting how I vote.

And to make a statement like that is too soon.

And that we are not independent thinkers.

And we are you got it pretty hotly contested primary for governor.

Governor Sarah Palin cannot and support he writes she did.

What do you think about the way Governor Palin is -- you know about her political career and and how Luke publicly responded to -- and media.

Well -- I think.

Certainly.

She is someone that.

Has made a difference in the Republican Party in the Tea Party.

She has -- cause a lot of interest to come about in reference to the issues she speaks a lie about the different issues and how.

Strong she feels about them.

I was pleased for her to come and support me.

I think it made a difference.

But I also think that -- But she is still.

Very available to give her opinion reference to.

I'll politics and where the America's going.

And whether we're on the right track or not and I think she certainly free to do that.

I was pleases to receive her endorsement.

When you became governor.

That you inherited a deficit.

-- what was this do you remember it exactly what the deficit was yes well the day before the election the general election.

It was 250 million dollars million -- thank you don't mind the state budget is only five point six billion.

So the day before the general election -- having it reported as 250 million.

Today after the election became 450 million but happened -- -- 24 hours or 48 whatever it is well certainly the administration that was in place was not.

Being truthful with the public.

And so the day after.

I certainly was informed that the deficit was much thicker.

That how how does that haven't been and we -- the public figures public and didn't commit acts and that people were following reporting on governor Richardson as a Steward of the economy here and now that was not.

What was happening what was coming out of the governor's office was.

-- figures -- were not to.

We're not being honest with people.

So you -- does that all -- our when he saw the number jump in the period of 2440 absolutely absolutely and and it was a number that.

I knew we had to deal with.

And I knew it had to -- lieutenant fifty million less -- -- we're just gonna have to do with the rest of the new Mexicans are doing in which is tighter belts and figure out haven't solved this problem.

Because when I was running for office.

I was committed to not raising taxes I was -- balance the budget.

And I was going to make sure that we were not gonna raise taxes so that we can really -- continue to be competitive.

In bringing businesses to New Mexico grow our economy so that that deficit.

Will never come back again.

I -- fast way to get my students cut spending or eliminate waste in this to grow the economy grow the -- takes a look at a time.

So I take it that it was expense cutting back because you what you you went to.

He bounced it but I did.

-- I presented a budget and the governor is is expected to present a budget.

And in that budget my budget actually increased spending in Medicaid and in education.

I proposed budget.

But also trimmed back for example.

I trimmed back from the number Reagan and the exempt employees -- and he's -- represent employees people who -- just to pick up there.

First is classified employees who you have to.

You can only get -- employee for costs us basically civil service verses.

Appointment so when it's exactly and governor Richardson had grown -- number of exempt and please by over 340.

I have -- -- -- 212 at this time.

I got rid of -- two ships that were assigned to the residents we sold the jet and that governor Richardson had purchased.

We sold the jet an addition to four other planes.

We cut the -- -- exempt employees no one was going to earn more than a 125000.

Dollars cabinet secretaries.

And we were going to cut back on salary significantly and -- week we went through the budget -- tooth and nail.

From cell phones and take home cars and I put a moratorium on -- purchased a brand new cars for two years.

I mean we went through it in a way that.

I had never been done before we balance this and -- The method that you employed and your democratic house and senate.

Do you see that that would be ineffective when the national level lowers the federal government so vastly different that.

You because you remedy seemed quite.

Straightforward and simple but.

Would they transcend on national level well certainly -- heading.

Spending is is he's one of the things that can transcend to the federal government to me.

-- I think with the federal government has grown.

Com and by leaps and bounds and they need to look where -- they need to cut and I'm not sure that I think Washington is such -- at such a gridlock.

That they're not willing to even really look -- and where is the access where do we cut.

And it can't be across the board so I take from that that your post just letting us go off the fiscal cliff because -- domestic cut straight across the board.

Deducted the cases and it makes those cuts across the -- New Mexico will actually feel enormous impact.

Unfortunately New Mexico.

Depends significantly on federal dollars we have four military bases here in New Mexico.

We have two national labs that are very important to our national defense and so.

We could possibly lose 20000 jobs health care exchanges you're setting them up some Republican governors are not why did you decide to set -- month.

What -- moving in that direction but we're also still negotiating with the federal government.

-- -- and were negotiating for flexibility.

We're negotiating for what is best for new Mexicans.

Instead the one size fits all that's coming from Washington DC.

Where can we be flexible that best serves new Mexicans.

And we've asked many questions of the president and we -- hoping for answers.

It's been several months that we have.

Been asking these questions and haven't received responses.

But if at the end of the day.

The responses or not.

What benefit -- Mexicans we can still always go and allow the federal government to -- Push for those exchanges.

It's no secret.

That -- lot of eyes on you I'm done 2016 year woman your governor around the Hispanic.

Any thoughts on running for president -- sixty.

-- thoughts on that I am.

Running for reelection for.

The governor of New Mexico.

I want to make sure that.

I fulfill the promises that I made it to new Mexicans that's extremely important to me.

And before leaving New Mexico we also got to meet -- -- very sweet sister letting Martinez.

Has -- -- as governor then every little bit and then they get it like I tell -- tell -- bar.

She -- great -- -- can't -- it may help us.

Good sister she loves you yeah in his -- area daddy -- Anyway thank rescue watches on TV EXP gonna keep watching a giants team member.

Militants now isn't the end zone we know about you birthday party written in -- only -- and -- I have Britney.

-- he really.

Can't get a chance to prove it was just got it act is -- a nice house.

Yeah act and then we'll let the dogs -- Yeah -- What I'll Gloria.

No matter how did you become believes -- but the fact I five I'm well.

-- -- -- Governor is a guardian for her disabled sister -- we just -- and there's much more of our interview with governor Susanna Martinez just go to Greta -- dot com.
