-- -- pledging to cut the deficit we inherited by half by the end of my first term in office.
This will not be easy.
-- require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges.
We've long neglected.
But I refuse to leave our children whether debt that they cannot repay.
That means taking responsibility right now in this administration.
For getting our spending under control.
Cut it in half that never happened of course that was President Obama just weeks after he took office in 2009.
At the opening of the fiscal responsibility.
Summit right back -- the federal debt was ten point six trillion today we -- more than sixteen trillion.
And he wants to raise the debt ceiling to spend even more money that now honestly we don't have.
But our next guest says both sides are to -- pretty much equally.
Charlie -- is a columnist for The Washington Times OKB can't beat people who's more to blame the president or congress.
Well I would -- I'll probably make the argument that the President Obama clearly with the -- -- -- his spending plans last couple years.
And certainly Democrats.
Are probably a little bit more to blame you let's remember two years ago Democrats ran the entire town they had.
Both chambers -- a filibuster proof majority in the senate.
They control the house they had the White House if he wanted to raise taxes then.
If they wanted to do cut spending meant they could have done it and Republicans what are they could've done it a lot over every Republican.
Objection.
And they could have gotten everything they wanted they didn't do that.
But I do think it's worth remembering that if you go back you know ten years your President Bush and Republicans in -- control congress.
You -- where they enacted two very expensive wars.
That were not paid for.
That's the thing that is I think even worse today with obamacare which I don't think it will actually be -- actually get paid for.
-- with these you if -- sudden efficiencies we're gonna find in federal government.
Which the federal government has never.
Found before right is that wars eventually end and entitlement programs like obamacare go on for ever.
And so just for those reasons I do think Democrats are probably far worse but.
All of these people.
It had some blood on their hands for the do miserable state -- -- in fact I read your column you said that Americans have been suckered by their government let's put it up on the screen not only are they still at the table.
Referring to lawmakers.
They are the only ones at the table and we soccer is the unwitting co signers on there.
Financial calamity stand on the sidelines watching them debate.
Well.
I suppose that pretty much says it all those -- Britain crib and if you look at -- that -- only thing everyone -- agreed upon.
It's that somehow or not taxpayers need to fork over a whole lot more money to Washington that's the only thing that everyone has agreed upon in this -- this canard.
From Democrats -- President Obama did that.
That that it's bigger mayor's plan is you know what it what what -- Jay Carney call -- fairy dust in magic beans or something like that.
Well my goodness it if it does require taxpayers to cough up another 800 billion dollar offers that they wouldn't otherwise.
That how was that.
How is that not sort of a balanced approach -- -- certainly the right sees it as a balanced approach and they hate it.
Because it does require more tax -- mean if you if you -- of -- -- you know on a board.
They had fiduciary responsibility -- corporation and had gotten into this much trouble quote you what to shareholders that you need to pay up more people like it.
Would be -- probably put in jail fur -- raiding the retirement of debt was actually hold an election Charlie people get what they deserve right.
I hate to admit that but I think you are right about that Greg -- but I also think -- did a lot of it is just messaging.
I think that President Obama did a much better job making the election about you know dancing horses in contraception and gay marriage which of course it's not about that when you have sixteen trillion dollars in debt and we're going down the tubes and we have that did this massive.
Onslaught of of taxes coming on in the in the midst of a terrible it.
You know I asked this of Mary -- him in the last or wanna ask you the same thing are are Republicans really making a real big PR mistake here.
By a being painted into a corner as defending a rich.
You know I think I I don't I think that if if it gets portrayed like that.
I think that it it is not -- -- to an end and Republicans are terrible.
And at sort of they they need to learn how.
Talk about fiscal responsibility in a bright and positive way right and they have not been very good at that Mitt Romney though I thought he turned out to be very.
Strong candidate obviously failed to make that that story to tell that story of low taxes and limited government.
And and freedom and so Republicans need to learn.
How to do this much better and you know not only tennis image is everything Charlie hurt thanks very much good to see but.
