Called.

My grandmother's ravioli and it airs on Wednesdays at 8:30 PM 530 on the West Coast and he joins us now you're the perfect person host this show it is.

I mean honestly is a joy I get paid to go into grandparents kitchens and -- with them.

And hear about their lives is has -- -- had 57 different jobs in TV this is by far the most fun I've ever had.

In the kitchen is a very personal space and someone's house and in.

Do you think about like bedroom or the bathroom where you wouldn't want and actually have a street today about a kitchen I think also holds with it because of all of this sort of the secret.

Recipes in the stories that take place right there in that room.

Yeah I especially people who like to -- like all these people they really -- Open off and you know I mean not to get all -- here are more interested in.

Why people caught them how they caught them and also grandparents are awesome and I love my parents I'm sure you -- your parents.

But the relationship and parents can be complicated with grandparents or something kind of pure and simple it's kind of -- upside.

And these are people that are in -- point -- their lives where they everything is crystallize what.

What matter it's like values and I mean it's it's been really great for -- -- to learn from them.

And grandparents -- guarded in no way that period so I don't feel like they have to watch themselves they've gotten.

To a certain part of certain part of their lives where they feel like they can really say what they want to say.

No matter who's offended by it.

-- totally I -- -- -- the 91 year old puncher who took me shootings that we can make medicines -- taught me how to make fried green tomatoes.

This guy's a total about harassment is really -- And he said some very politically.

What we would think of his politically correct things and we kept them in the shop as we thought we're not -- make these warm Fuzzy cute -- parents disguised likable because he is who yes.

Oh what has been yours and you mentioned hunter we just saw the -- -- -- -- you tried to convinced it.

Really rise up and become -- -- -- -- from monkeys.

The world over a -- been sort of the most fascinating.

Person that you've gotten to talk while he's.

Shoot tunes in spring to mind Ruth was our first she taught me to -- -- classic Jewish cuisine she taught me how to make and say crap block.

-- and then she taught me how to make up by the way thank you she taught -- how to make it felt to bash.

And never -- never eat could help the fish from the jar because that is not just a Chanda it's a top pressure on the not a Japanese department store -- but she was really great and this is you know a woman who is one the most optimistic people have ever -- hilarious and she survived the Holocaust and she was six years old -- to hide in a -- from for a year from the Nazis.

And she said all that time throughout her life all she's ever wanted to have his her own family so it's really got hit it's it's pretty amazing to be with somebody like that -- also very funny.

And then marry the polish grandmother taught me to make Perot he.

I love this woman she's hilarious.

And after two days of shooting it takes two days -- each episode she looked at me and she said.

All right kiddo it's been fun not get out of my now.

Yes that that happens and that's and that's why we want you on the show I -- Satan for people you know Americans are now experts in reality TV unfortunately.

But I'll tell you one thing people may not realize is that.

People who don't desperately want to be on TV.

-- better at being on TV and and we managed to find grandparents who being on TV.

He's so far down the list of priorities -- much rather be with their families and -- -- and you're doing whatever recreational things they do.

I mean these these women and men are like the anti real housewives like although truth samaritans who are you know money -- calling each other's eyes out this is the opposite.

Your career and I've been following you now for for many many years and you've had some great success and you sort of you you told interesting line you know you're sort of part comedian part journalist part.

Commentator.

How when you think about yourself and and what you'd like to do over the next several years what -- what what do you think.

That's a good question and my father used to say places and how what what am I what is my title and gave me some anxiety -- get in this business people -- saying exactly what where do you fit.

And my father to your -- them I like that -- -- satirist sounds a little hobby like I'm Mark Twain like comedies changing the world but.

Now I mean it rather then it's an edit myself I really simply just do stories that on interest to them.

And you don't CBS Sunday morning I get to do stories between.

-- three minutes and sometimes ten minutes which as you know is a long time it's a luxury -- TV.

And if it calls for something funny.

Hopefully it'll be funny but -- do stuff that's not supposed to be funny at all and and the hopefully won't match up between funny if it's not supposed to be.

But the I feel like -- Like my career is going back to college and taking only -- actives and doing the things that are interesting to me.

Wouldn't that be nice -- I have to ask you before we wrap things up what did you grandmothers ravioli have some kind of out of -- secret ingredient.

It didn't have a secret ingredient but I'll tell you this and I don't maybe I'm alone and that's I don't think I am.

If I have a fire at a time machine I go back thirty years and show up at her apartment and maybe fifteen minutes earlier and hope for a little bit in the kitchen and learn what she was feeling a little -- a lot of I was close to my grandmother I spent a lot of time with her.

But like a lot of kids you show up at these big lavish meals and he has locked it down and then you leave.

And you know and it and I distinctively remember these ravioli which were actually quite simple -- ground -- -- spinach and garlic.

Any downside of the big on envelopes of possible were handmade they're almost kind of delicate so.

He didn't just didn't just shuffle went down he kind of took care that you you relish them.

But that's like lot of that I thought like you know people when they have the chance should spend more time with their grandparents it's really this.

It's a special relationship.

I feel like good my grandmother may have been a bad you because she served as good -- fish out of the joint hawkish on -- I didn't know any better.

And I would certainly never called -- on -- even if I had.

No it and no one is suggesting your grandmother was -- and off.

-- knew -- could conflict but you -- have to remember that sometimes the less healthy people to fish can make your took -- -- -- but so like you should I know I have met -- action a lot of Jewish people have said.

I'm not supposed to love the -- -- -- now but I have a real sentimental attachment to it.

This show is called my grandmother's ravioli hosted by Mo Rocca it airs Wednesday night's.
