-- -- alert US authorities are staying with the alleged ringleader of Egyptian terrorist network now in custody tied to that brutal attack.

That killed four Americans this arrest may have stopped an effort to launch a new wing of al-Qaeda.

Molly Henneberg is in Washington -- more on the story Molly.

Through my US officials have not had a chance to interrogate and yet but -- even tracking this guy for months.

Egyptian authorities aided by US intelligence arrested Mohammed Jamal Abu luck -- within the past week or so according to the Wall Street Journal.

He's about 45 years old and is the leader of a group that took part in the deadly attack on the US consulate -- -- -- Libya on September 11.

Not appears to be an ambitious terror leader with big plans for his group.

Here's what we know about it he's a former Egyptian Jihad member he was released from prison in Egypt in March 2011 during the Arab Spring.

He's now the leader of the Jamal network and has been setting up terror training camps in Libya and Egypt with some financial help from al-Qaeda in Yemen.

And he was trying to set up al-Qaeda in -- Some of his followers were part of the assault on our consulate.

This -- indicates perhaps that the new Muslim Brotherhood led government in Egypt may be willing to assist the US in going after Islamic terrorists.
