After the hour you just waking up whoever said there's no such thing as a free lunch.

And -- with good old Uncle Sam.

The government giving out free lunches now in the name of hurricane relief but the only problem is that many kids.

Jamie's lunches were not affected by super storm sandy at all.

Joining us now is Andrea -- Rutherford she lives in Staten Island new York and is still displaced from hurricane sandy still out of her home.

This program was set up because so many kids were displaced from their homes in Staten Island and other parts of New York City.

So.

Members of congress decided let's give lunch for free.

On its face that sounds like a good idea -- -- so your child goes to school and you knew he was getting free lunch would you think about.

And I thought it was a nice because you know at this at this time I don't have -- home to live in so total.

Little bit of money that I'm saving his great -- you know.

Every day to commute to bring -- to school half an hour each way it's it's very difficult gas money.

So I thought if I could save a few bucks it's great.

Right because you're being displaced can't get inside your home yet -- your living with another family member yes it's not in your neighborhood.

-- -- then you your member of the PTA yes so I you would have a say he.

As all parents do -- especially.

As a member of the PT -- when did you find out that it wasn't just displaced sandy kids skating free lunches but all -- New York City kids apparent.

Actually found that yesterday I read an article and home in the near post and saw that it was for all the kids and I was like.

Why why would all the kids in New York City needed not everyone in New York City was affected by sandy.

That Allen was very hard hit.

You know I know across parts of queens a hard it.

Some parts of New Jersey -- that's different state but you know -- why so so what is the most of shedding parts you when you read the article what was your first gut instinct.

Why children getting -- that shouldn't there are parents that you know can well afford to give the children month they'll launch -- they'll launch.

Right so here is -- as senator Kirsten Gillibrand her spokeswoman had this to say.

It would have taken so long to process all the requests if we had limited the recipients so we said let's just open it up for all kids now.

I guess I can see that from a certain point of view because you know you may be with all the forms and who actually was displaced who is not.

But you think it may have their may have been an easier.

Across I think on a school by school basis my son's school they.

They know each child individually that was affected so they would know -- -- this child that's who wants this child doesn't.

So I think that's how I feel they should do it on the school by school basis that are saying that this storm is gonna cost the American taxpayers sixty billion dollars.

Does that upset you -- a part of it that maybe this is just a waste of some of that money.

I think the money should go to families who need it this I'm not getting anything.

My flood insurance is paying very little and my homeowners' and paying anything.

Team is just giving me rental rental assistance so this money in my opinion to just go to families who need it.

We're looking at pictures of devastation in the UK stature come.
