Morning welcome back to political insiders on child -- -- sitting here as usual with.
Pat -- and Doug shown.
And today we're gonna -- something a little bit different.
We're gonna talk to you about the corrupt consulting class.
As story surfaced in the last few days about unbelievable amounts of money being spread around the GOP.
During the campaign among the -- -- -- Romney campaigning RNC.
And in -- last week some major retirements from public office with huge payouts involved.
-- it all together and talk a little bit about what is happening inside the Republican conservative movement.
Financial and how much money.
Payments to people is driving what is seen publicly in campaigns and on -- -- -- the most -- high profile thing.
And the least.
Amount of money involved the announcement on Thursday that senator Jim -- your junior senator -- from South Carolina just -- 22 years ago right and who had been in the house in his second term in the senate.
And it still leader of the Tea Party movement in the Santa out of -- announces he's immediately resign from the US senate to take over.
Presidency The Heritage Foundation a very -- -- inside the beltway think tank.
Where he allegedly is going to be paid.
Ten times his senate salary.
That is taken many people -- -- shocked that in the middle of this financial problem we have which the Tea Party.
Has helped focus a country on the issue of the debt.
That this leader of the Tea Party would leave elective office -- four years left in his term.
Is it did he do this for money.
I don't know what he did for me so you know -- said before -- -- and politics for principle of Washington at the culture of Washington is for everyone to cash out.
People -- over here to cash out we have now seen senators.
Currently remember Trent Lott.
Left the senate.
Because he was running up into the new ethics law which would keep him certain kinds of lobbying activities and so on so he -- to -- the senate.
Early in his term in the middle of his term even though -- used to whip.
We saw it's bipartisan look we saw the same thing.
Senator Biden left that -- -- the nominations closed her in in Indiana withdrew and became a lobbyist and lawyer in Washington.
But that would at least he had finished that that term.
These this is going -- -- just tell us about how to make money and how to -- give myself taking care everyone goes there.
To quote do good in it is not -- -- Wesley Allstate you'd do well.
These people never leave it become law -- lobbyists lawyers are raging these deals everything is about cat now it's about -- crash.
Crash cashing out for my dead -- know what made you be a little.
Context arm -- what to me would reinforce what Pat's saying different perspective.
-- I think it's fair to say that.
Two years ago.
If there was an intellectual godfather.
Of the Tea Party movement in the senate would be Doumit.
That's right he was there quote for principal.
And he had a very bright future.
As the leader of the right wing of the Republican Party -- potential majority leader minority leader.
And clear having just been reelected.
That he was on the ascendancy.
-- the defeat of governor Romney.
With the Republicans not taking the senate.
Demand sits there and says what's in this for me I gotta wait two more years maybe we take me take the senate perhaps we don't.
I dare say bankruptcy.
Of the Republican Party the disarray that we spoke of yesterday is demonstrated by the fact not only do they not have a message.
On the so called fiscal cliff for an agenda.
The error of the Tea Party movement the intellectual there basically cut.
Some runs he's gone are not the only one.
Analysts -- go to -- -- and 3028.
Years ago another guy arrived up on Capitol Hill and made news.
For sleeping in his office.
And saving money -- big on saving money Dick army who rose up from freshman Republican to be the majority leader of the house.
A Tea Party guys left the house a few years ago founded this thing called freedom works another -- minority grassroots organization.
We just learned that he is left freedom works and pocketed and eight million dollars severance payment it's going to be paid in installments.
To leave that group.
What do we think about it -- Do there's some illicit book deals -- problem to other people he's being paid by a board member.
You know I always sought having any Tea Party operation based in Washington itself was.
It inherently a contradiction in terms.
But to go to your point Doug about the corruption of -- the Tea Party grows up is deemed -- pure grassroots.
Revolt in this country.
And a lot of people attempted to make money on it or -- it.
I've talked to Dick Armey who I think some more honorable person than most.
But he's in Washington is -- -- an operative told the Tea Party what to do.
You have other shall -- those.
Tea Party pay cuts -- tornadoes spread which would take fraudulent let me make money the New York -- -- but that I have to terrier I saw.
Your friends Sal Russo.
And all I can tell you is he's not heard.
No I'm not notice in the Noonan I don't know that's that's wrong -- that's wrong.
Tens of millions -- are charged -- tens and that's what this is how we'd walk and steal from the people were available at the -- Say something but -- this is about a culture.
That's a solid all the more -- the Potomac it is why it.
This 83% the American people from left to right believe that this whole system at a rate.
But it is why they know they're not being spoken to in there -- no politics -- because everything is being devoured.
In return for personal gain okay.
Before -- Who I knew you're gonna get to that you're right that was the third case of this that I don't want to bring up which is the biggest case we -- to -- -- -- which are chump change a million and a half.
Eight million we get to the big enchilada 400 -- more than a 152.
God bless you -- for which he has.
By putting you on the show the SE yeah.
Million or more paid this past campaign year.
To two companies called FL ask and act and targeted victory and by the Romney campaign -- Romney facts.
Overall energy Toyota and the FL last connect couldn't.
One of his partners that god bless you again.
It's one of the partners of that firm is the chief of staff of our -- and -- he's the element name.
A -- so he's the LN FL us connect to he's getting may be a lot of this money or his firm is getting that we don't know if he gets a week he claims not -- -- -- make the point that we -- and -- -- this huge amount the other guy is.
That would be the is that your office was in the Romney campaign and he.
His firm would target -- victory right got 96 point four million dollars from the -- from the campaign.
So total in excess of 152 million.
On god all one no -- bid contracts none did noncompetitive contract apparently given by these guys to their former and these guys really paid late John yes it was late in the campaign -- absolutely -- -- a few weeks ago was 38 million dollars.
The blast filing that just came last week off to -- 152.
Remember we're not done with finally right this is only two -- -- Dover and 46 -- so we could have more after years so and then these same people now want to be the ones to decide how to up the Republican national -- online game going on and -- -- conference in which they've featured in ourselves after their failure -- -- could get out the vote.
I mean one of the great catastrophes of all time.
Nobody disappears in this business don't know but there's no -- opportunities no.
We win while Rick here's what I don't understand -- we were told that Mitt Romney was top flight systems -- We're told that made a lot of money investments.
How could he be running around the country as a candidate.
Enterprise that he's been running six years to be president.
And allow a 152.
Million or more.
Be taken and given to these guys who didn't do the job that all the up worker program failed on Election Day.
Was the worst run campaign.
Why why wasn't anybody paying attention of those -- You don't answer -- -- had -- -- -- I -- I I think I can even explain what happened.
Romney's campaign understood they didn't have a geo TV effort that is get out the vote to match Obama's.
And to your point John the reason Romney kept fund -- was they knew they needed to have something now.
There are two ways to have a geo TV operation.
You have one an -- requires an investment plan a strategy which is what the Obama campaign -- And there's another way to do it which is to throw money at vendors who said don't worry be happy will terrorist attacks.
And life will be fine for the vendors and will be fine.
But almost certainly what didn't happened was putting together any ground game of any.
Concerted logical or practical impact when.
Pat spoke of people getting six geo TV calls in Charles robo call robo calls in a state that's going -- and they had to spend the money.
They didn't quite know what to do so.
Almost certainly the money came late because they raised that -- there was no not only was it no -- there was no oversight.
And so what she did was -- paid vast sums of money to vendors who probably never gotten this amount of money to do a set of activities that are almost.
I'm clear our unwritten without any real ability to -- that's what happened.
And the net result of all this.
He is I believe.
-- 150 million was almost totally wasted or -- what -- -- about the result isn't the only example does go to the question I think Romney.
Based on his campaign management would have been a terrible president.
Are you kidding managed his -- campaign -- his -- -- -- he'll allow the -- racing this is the only self dealing.
Going all in the Romney campaign.
We have Steve Stephens media operations -- strategist.
And -- yet they have one buyer remember we just.
I'm -- -- all -- -- -- our country.
-- we have a fund raising about by the way in that time buying a solar viewers know when you fly -- commercial on signed felt.
You've paid the rate that you negotiate.
And the guy that does the buying gets a percentage of that -- that whoever the bodies of 15% and people negotiate with the correct Maine gets -- -- well what we learned during the campaign was the Obama was getting the same ad for a quarter of the cost the Romney -- -- let me Hillary -- she places about John briefly.
Most campaigns and I think the Obama campaign to.
Who do the -- let's assume they're paying an 8% commission for the sake -- not fifteen minute present.
They would hire a media buyer who would get a better rate and the media buyer which are earned.
Say a percent.
Could be a little less but the problem percent and a percent of a billion dollars a lot of money.
And so the campaign would keep.
Our became the media by eight -- agency would keep 7%.
Which don't help the commission.
But under the arrangement pat was speaking if -- one person buying all the time instead of instead of spending a percent or more for time behind.
You've got that person's a 100000 dollars salary Herbert -- leaving more and more profit you.
Two point one -- as I -- not restricted Romney's fund raiser for the guy who's.
Written about there were stories about him being like piece on making millions out of the Romney on race.
You that you you have that going on you have would -- -- of this but this following situation but you have.
All of the arrangements.
With the tracks to super pac group to sink in what you have here is -- network of people.
Across the Republican Party who essentially let's put it won't.
I think the evidence is plea that would donors of the Republicans -- -- -- remarks that took.
Several billion dollars in deliberate -- -- -- Election Day.
Date -- they were all interconnected we saw this red state is written as the New York Times wrote about this the Washington Post.
The arrangements or relationships or are in an incredibly.
But it's a whole deal doses these people are about tethering their -- rather than waiting when I came to politics.
Politics was not a place that you made a lot of money.
Most of my money when I started in public but business was made in the corporate war.
I did politics because.
It wasn't as much money.
It was because I believe -- what I was doing that reflected consultants and pollsters and others of both parties some people did better than others the media people could because the commitment.
But nevertheless that wasn't this kind of money.
This stuff money being spent politics make Wall Street and hedge funds look like pipers it would -- god is a lot of people.
-- do -- -- lack of success.
But -- -- -- -- agree we're gonna take a quick break we'll continue on this and we'll do a little bit on Hillary 2016 and the fiscal cliff.
For pat -- I'm probably -- will be right back.
I'm probably I would pack -- Doug -- Think we're sort of done the corrupt consulting -- you one more point about point -- of the car chase for the orbit.
-- -- and others are saying well we don't have breach of we're ground ball these companies were not -- even though our name is on even going to name is on it.
He is the deputy chief of staff for mr.
previous humans originally assigned.
Q do the post mortem of the campaign.
And -- leave the other thing.
But here's the deal we don't know whether he healed and still stop.
Whether he's still being paid overtime -- -- rob was by his company.
These arrangements I gather you are or or -- -- -- -- if you don't think that he was getting something out of this cyber bridge also you know I haven't told.
A bridge that I'm now prepared to buy.
When you're in this position.
What you sit -- do is you wait you say.
You know -- 100000 dollars -- 150 whatever you -- these consultants in the campaign making a big score than you say.
There will be a vast sum of money coming in it's still around Election Day the so called late money as opposed to the Smart not me.
And then there will be we got to spend this and you say well my company can do this.
And people somewhere -- -- might be a conflict of interest but we'll get started we'll spend a few 100000.
Maybe a million.
And then another fifty million comes in and so and I know -- got a geo TV model we can spend that fifty million very quickly and that's right they can spend it.
But by the -- most of the successful presidential campaign George W.
Bush for example he made -- Karl Rove and everybody give up their business -- to work in a presidential campaign.
The people running a presidential campaign can't be double dipping -- -- -- whether or less some set amount of money from whatever.
But did -- com.
These -- this is winning the election is secondary to -- your pocket and now until aching knees don't hurt.
As I said playing the remarks and taking him to the clear that we businessmen would never let this happen -- there -- -- we've been talking.
On our show each week about the disarray in the Republican Party during and since the election and underneath it is this thing because -- the finances or rotten which they are.
And and and there's no move afoot by anybody with stature to fix it.
And change it it's gonna continue to do a lot -- for control in the direction of the Republican Party could stop on its way to being the week.
These people's interest as you can continue to control mechanism.
So they keep it mechanically -- a problem.
Run -- the radio and I'd like if -- were running for president as a Republican and 26 -- I would go to all these donors and I'd say.
I'm not having these consultants not having any illness should be running I'm running my campaign I'll bring any campaign manager.
We're going lean and mean we don't need all this stuff.
Can provide the success let's swing change.
It doesn't run by console OK let us believe that we can do it again -- -- the -- let's go to the fiscal -- we have a lot of comments coming in.
Yesterday speaker Boehner President Obama had a private one on one meeting in the White House they've kept things buttoned up since and we don't know what went on.
Christopher Todd asked this question which is underline all.
Are we headed for recession -- car was.
Specifically if the Republicans cave on the bush tax rates and new obamacare taxes it next month.
Could that also hurt job creators enough.
And or pass -- cost on to consumers.
To also cause a recession.
Yes I believe if we get an inadequate deal which I think is certainly possible.
Given the slowdown that's written about this morning.
An economic activity in the Wall Street Journal I think it's entirely possible and I couldn't agree more with the settlements that the.
Finishing top mr.
-- rodeos she taught Christopher talk a -- Pat you don't disagree with that right aka Johnny sage has a couple of comments and -- had done it before.
He's stage -- -- a man and -- loyal viewer if I had Johnny we we thank you -- -- the power to decide this I would make any expiring tax laws permanent.
And start eliminating entire departments.
From spending the government has enough money and doesn't.
Need any more government is almost twice as big as it was ten years ago.
All right let them let's just get suspect that this machine this this little biased on just heats in meets in it spends and -- spent.
The effort to really deal with spending it does it -- there is no desire in Washington.
You have to government parties they talk about it but essentially -- in the -- is giving government whether with the George.
Would W bush giving the meta description drug program prescription drug program and Medicare in giving out there isn't spending money like a drunken sailor.
So which only allow the Democrats to double down on it.
What a Republican doesn't.
And then you have but that the issue we have we saw today is Republicans are starting to draw the -- -- as we have advocated a week or so ago.
All about the U2 -- for two -- really about the issue about the debt limit.
The -- -- look it was have a discussion with the American people about going off in another clip.
Which comes in February the White House is adamant that we are not gonna have many more debt ceiling fight our cuts.
The Democrats are saying we're not gonna do this or question is that you don't exactly -- what what what is that we just become Greece.
This debate which affects all Americans.
The Republicans can't -- public debate.
President running around talking about middle class people and I think -- the Republicans are Smart get the -- give him his taxes in movies they're video.
Wanted to say something because I see guys like.
-- who was this Johnny -- who said to eliminate government eliminate programs and departments.
The needs to be a quick little education of the American people about what's happening in the government which is 85%.
Of the budget this year is.
For attacked the Pentagon.
Social security and the interest payment on the national debt.
We Republicans say we can't cut the Pentagon even though we can you should.
Politically up till now he can't even talk about cutting Medicare Social Security it's now finally being talked about and you can't cut.
The interest payment on the debt you have to pay the interest every year I don't know you can just walk from it.
-- would lead to a quarter Wednesday Israel would -- we're awaiting a monumental public and that's what they do we just -- -- -- -- -- the idea that by cutting travel costs and foreign made that we're gonna heal this problem is not it.
We have to get into these four things.
And fix them.
And the main ones are Medicare.
Little bit Medicaid which -- half federal.
Little bit -- what and soon hear a lot of bit social security and the Pentagon needs to be reform and never gets reformed.
They spend money like crazy since 9/11.
It's grown exponentially.
No one has that I was a solid -- all of the intelligence budget all of -- and that stuff is politically tough to cut.
-- The bottom line.
Is we need revenue.
And we need cuts and we need to do it in a balanced rational way.
That says how do we do this in a way that gets us the revenue we need in the least.
Painful and most productive way possible and how do we do the cuts that you're talking about -- -- but don't.
Either brilliant -- Bill Clinton plan of a year ago -- no one has talked about which is adopt the plan whatever it's going to be.
Some tax revenue I'm spending cuts reforms.
And then don't implement.
And I'll pass it.
Contingent upon economic benchmarks -- when we get well relation unemployment -- all of a certain level then the plan goes into effect when the country can absorb this -- Well that.
Mean that is a good but I told was smartest I didn't think -- -- approach which the president formed have been deserted and now actually you know I mean he does but.
But but look here's another problem in this is where you -- -- you're absolutely right -- about when the money goes.
But -- -- show the American people.
-- the confidence the American people we gonna stop wasting money did the GSA's -- -- -- waste in this government.
The duplicitous departments of ridiculous hiring policy.
And so -- If you weighed in with a mindset.
There are billions and billions.
Hundreds of this to be safe if you could prove to people big Gingrich said this about Medicare what update look at the fraud level of Medicare turner over to be sitting master charge.
They're they're brought -- zero point five the governments is like seven or 8% that's Billy the answer is prove that you could make this work.
And you'll get some confidence that these people government departments -- probably about this.
Prove this idea of all it's too small doesn't matter what you know what a billion here to billionaires Deborah -- got an a student -- no real way.
We have to wrap things up will there be a deal announced by Boehner and the president before new years yes there will movie -- there inadequate deal.
It'll be a framework and -- won't change.
The underlying that -- it will only said I agree and -- we set in motion the fight coming in February and march of the present itself I think there will be a big grand bargain announced.
By Christmas and I hope you're right I fear year old.
And while usually -- and you're usually right.
-- for doctor shown.
-- on jobless Julianne we love being with you we'll be back Sunday five -- five on the Fox News Channel.
And next Monday here 1030 on foxnews.com.
Have a great week.
