-- promising to keep fighting after Michigan is now the 24 right to work state in the country.
But conservative groups also working to pass those walls and even more states -- -- essentially allows workers opt out of paying union dues.
-- Michigan Democrat.
State senator Glenn Anderson with me now -- -- good morning to you.
You give a comment to our producers earlier today saying you were disgusted.
What's happening in your -- explain.
Thank you -- thanks for having me on your program.
I am disgusted with what's going on in Michigan this has been the most anti worker anti middle class legislature and governor that this state has probably seen in fifty years.
There's been more damage done to our seniors our schools.
Our workers in Michigan than any administration that I can recall.
And it's it's a very damaging time for the state of.
-- -- -- looks good let's go through this now -- explain this why should any worker.
Who was not a member of the union.
Why should that worker have to pay union dues to that union -- not even a part -- Yeah it's there if there in a shop that -- Benefiting from the negotiations of the union.
Why should they not pay for what -- yet.
It's it would be no different.
Then you living in your subdivision.
And you having utility coming down your street in your neighbors paying for their utilities but you're not paying for them.
So it's basically that is all they don't have to pay union dues they do have PS service charge in there and they can not be a member of the union if they choose not.
-- but I know you make the case that this is not about economics it's all about politics and that's kind of what the president said the other day.
But if you can't -- -- if you don't -- those union dues it's about union economics.
Well because the union is weaker than is it not.
The underlying thing as it is an effort to destroy unions in Michigan there's no doubt about it.
There's outside interest in people and Michigan are sick and tired of billionaires coming into Michigan spending.
Millions of dollars trying to influence public policy.
And the Coke Brothers.
-- -- boss from the Grand Rapids area.
And others are behind this effort to destroy unions in this state well let me categorize it is it's gonna drive the economics completely down in this state.
We're working people in this state.
OK now I -- I grew up in Ohio I love your state I think give a wonderful state and I know you love your state also and you love your people but doesn't it hurt you.
When you see jobs and company setting up shop in Indiana and not Michigan.
It hurts me when I see employers.
Driving down wages and I in this state.
And causing people have to pick up a second job just to support your families and to keep a roof over their heads and send their kids to school.
But doesn't it.
Bring -- there's that well built there's no there's no.
-- evidence that.
Odd at lower wages in those jobs coming and I'm really and truly senator and look where we're -- -- figure out of Indiana that shows throughout thirteen thousand jobs since it went right to work and how are they wrong.
-- I do believe the wrong I believe that racing to the bottom is not where we want to go economically for the state or any state.
We should be racing to the top is the president said.
Not racing to the bottom and that's exactly what's happening now right lieutenant exit strategy to fight this thing and overturn right.
So we still -- a baby you gonna try to get Rick Snyder out of office the Republican governor or can you go the router referendum and part -- on that.
The referendum has some issues as you know.
Well if your -- you're probably aware of the fact that in our constitution.
Citizens have the right to petition to change laws that they disagree -- overturn the actions of the legislature it's my understanding in the Steelers and appropriations bill attached to it.
And under the constitution to Michigan you cannot challenge that.
That is correct and that that is something that Republicans have done time and time again and they know it's something that your action they're taking.
That it's not popular with the public.
Why would they not allow the public to have their constitutional right to reject their action.
And and they've seal that.
But we have other avenues and we're gonna pursue -- -- and what those avenues are what then if you can't go after the referendum because.
That's what they did an Ohio and they want.
But that does not appear to be an option in Michigan.
So it's -- option number two.
We will I don't wanna lay that out right now but we will have take action and whether it's the 2014.
Election that we build up to.
People are very unhappy and Michigan what's been going on with this legislature in this governor.
This governor ran as one top nerd.
He's going to be one term nerd and is exactly what's gonna happen are -- waiting for page to senator thank you UN Anderson you come back anytime okay thank you -- we'll see where we go tax thank you Alison well.
