It is a parent's worst nightmare a gunman dressed in black combat -- Opening fire on a kindergarten class at a Connecticut elementary school.

27 people are dead.

Twenty children.

Six adults.

And the shooting.

Welcome everyone I'm Neil Cavuto and today Newtown Connecticut.

It is in a state of shock.

Does the unthinkable -- -- mass shooting at the sandy of elementary school.

Here's what we know right now and there are conflicting reports this hour over the exact identity of the shooter we're told that the suspect's brother is being question.

Officials say his mother was found dead in Connecticut and his father's body in New Jersey.

There are separate reports of up to four weapons possibly involved including a rifle and two automatic weapons.

The president visibly shaken by today's attacks.

The majority of those who died today were children.

Beautiful kids between the ages of five and ten years old.

They have their entire lives ahead of them.

Birthdays and graduation is.

Weddings.

-- -- -- -- Among the -- were also teachers.

Men and women who devoted their lives to helping our children.

Fulfill their dreams.

Or let's get the latest now from Rick Leventhal and Newtown Connecticut it replicated tell us.

But the governor of Connecticut was just here a short time ago Neil called this a tragedy of unspeakable terms -- kind of incident.

You can never be fully prepared for.

And remember that this happened it just over six hours ago so there's a lot of evidence still being processed that crime scene still very active.

And other scenes now being investigated.

Including apparently the whole of the shooters mother here in new town.

Where an adult body was found.

As well as another residence in New Jersey there are conflicting reports about the status of the shooters father.

Also conflicting reports on the shooter himself what we are are being told at this hour.

Is that the shooter is twenty year old Adam lands that his 24 year old brother Ryan was taken into custody in Hoboken in question.

But that Ryan at this point is not a suspect.

We're told the shooter was adamant that he had two weapons including an -- -- type assault rifle and a ten millimeter Glock handgun.

That he entered the school where his mother was a kindergarten teacher.

At 9:30 this morning and began firing police got a 911 call.

Local police showed up immediately called and state police and we're told -- -- -- -- mine where officers waited outside that high school in this case we're told.

That the officers immediately entered the school searching for adults and children that they could bring out to safety and that's exactly what they did and when they went in that school.

The police tell us they found it two rooms in that school in one area of the school.

Where -- these victims were located.

As you mentioned twenty children two of them transported to a local hospital inside that hospital eighteen other children found dead.

Inside that school along with six adults including.

The shooter.

And that then there's another adult they say they found in another location here in sandy hook so a very very difficult situation a crime scene that we'll take.

Days to process.

And a lot of questions remain unanswered but what we're told is that the shooters mother was a kindergarten teacher.

That the shooter went to that mothers classroom.

And shot the kids in that classroom as well as six other five other adults in the school.

And killed at least six -- schools -- video and killed himself as well.

We're continuing to get information on this and piecing it together for.
