With less than 1% of these crimes involving five or more victims.
Also gun homicides by individuals in their late teens -- in each -- but the Virginia Tech gunman in Friday's alleged shooter are down.
According to federal data gun homicides by persons between eighteen and 24 -- at 861993.
And then dropped almost half that 5300.
-- -- -- -- -- eight law enforcement has been making herculean efforts to prevent exactly this sort of tragedy that we saw unfold today.
Efforts.
That law enforcement's disposal range from.
Gun buyback programs to background checks to targeted efforts to interdict the flow of illegal guns.
Plus schools and communities far away from -- -- on posted memorials are held services on the children and the families who will never see another birthday.
Former law enforcement says the impact is amplified in the age of instant communication.
It's not that common boat when it happened it's very widely publicized.
Schools are taking additional precautions at this point in time.
To protect their teachers as well as the students and doing drills periodically during the school year.
Since April of this year seven major shootings in the US alone all involving a single shooter with multiple deaths.
What's not clear tonight is whether this represents any kind of uptick in the national statistics long term threat.
