The report on a night of almost unimaginable sorrow for parents.

And others in Newtown Connecticut about 65 miles from us here in New York.

Police say -- gunman dressed in black body armor came into the sandy hook elementary school this morning.

And started opening fire.

When it was over 27 were dead at the school's six adults and twenty children along with the gun.

Police say one other adult was killed elsewhere believed to be the shooters mother.

An emotional President Obama spoke this afternoon about the shootings.

Chief White House correspondent Ed Henry has that part of the story.

The majority of those who died today were children.

Beautiful kids between the ages of five and ten years old President Obama struggling to keep his composure.

The grief of an entire nation visible in the -- -- he tried and failed to suppress they have their entire lives ahead of them.

-- Earlier the president spoke to Connecticut governor Dan Malloy as well as FBI director Robert Moeller who's coordinating the investigation with state authorities.
