Tonight the investigation into the Connecticut mass shooting is only just beginning former LAPD homicide detective Marc Berman joins us.

-- -- -- Good evening.

You know mark united that we go back a long time talking about all these cases found this one tonight right now as we talked medical examiner inside that classroom.

And dead bodies still in the classroom trying to determine identity I just can only imagine.

How difficult it is for the police and medical examiner -- families everybody but this has to be done doesn't.

He does have to be done Greta -- and unfortunately I cannot imagine what it looks like him and the conditions in there and so you try to put that -- -- bit.

The medical examiner in the forensic personnel inside have to document first the entire scene there's going to be drawing a graft basically a blueprint of that room -- each and every person news.

All the evidence tests before -- -- before it's disturbed.

You have to number or letter the evidence and the positions of all the bodies each body has to be process.

Each body has to be examined by the corner.

Forensically photographed documented evidence collected and then then and only then can you remove each body one at a time.

Yeah I think for the families tonight you know they haven't gotten official word that their child is dead -- preserve an adult dead loved -- husband's life.

-- mother whatever.

But if but if you're sitting at home tonight and you expected your child to be home -- expected bureau wife beside our work.

Or mother father to be home and -- doesn't show enough you ought to see -- that that you are unfortunately -- your family member was a victim.

Yeah and I suppose a lot of people are thinking why in the world this investigation going now we know who the shooter is that's -- he shot himself in the head.

But I suppose is -- rising risk this -- I have co defendants are summoned help them.

And you're gonna put a case to -- -- I guess that's in part why is that right let me do this.

Well -- here you have to document because that's really what you need to do to actually.

Really.

Create -- history of the sense of it.

For legal purposes.

Certainly there could be civil actions if -- is not criminal but you have to remember that.

This suspect has been described as somebody that might have some.

Mental problems some incapacity as far as his mental state.

He could have been formulated by somebody else it could have been guided he could have been provided with information.

A conspiracy.

You know is it is really what I'm talking about where somebody could have put him.

Gave him the idea idea -- gave him information and completed the conspiracy.

Then you would need to prosecute that individuals so it needs to be done because this early in the investigation.

You really don't know what you have.

Except for the victim.

Bahrain would be a little bit of love that idea of who he was -- is New York Times is reporting tonight about him.

About how socially awkward he was in high school.

Few friends -- leave much footprints in his life he didn't have a FaceBook page people giggled and laughed at them.

He may have had was a high functioning autism so we're beginning to get a little bit of a glimpse of PM tonight but the detectives didn't have to go there and dig deeper -- are they got.

-- they're gonna dig deeper for weeks maybe maybe even longer than that I mean they're going to do basically an autopsy on his mind his life.

As well as his body they're going to figure out who he was talking to what he was saying they're gonna talk to friends -- Anybody was talking to on the computer and -- web sites.

Anything that he put out anything that he wrote.

Anything that he threatened they're going to find out.

Just exactly.

How many flags there were and that's really the only way -- you go backwards and try to prevent an incident.

Is actually control the individual with the idea and the motivation to do supplement is as famous as us.

Yeah I think used to these investigations and of this what's particularly badly needs twenty children -- -- so my other.

They're -- five to ten years old and this does seem like they'll isolate the worst of the worst this one doesn't -- But as a detective -- Do you ever having continued -- this dispassionate -- go through these -- Well you know that there is no way they did anybody -- prepare themselves for a child homicide deficit it just in a singular sense.

This.

The amount of victims and -- ages is is beyond overwhelming and I'm sure that you know.

Detectives and and forensic personnel they have to.

Try to detach themselves at least for that period of time to do their job but I mean this is a horrific scene.

Horrific crime -- -- and nobody will get over and nobody seen this scene will ever be quite the same.

But to me it seems like the worst of the worst that.

-- thanks for joining us tonight.
