-- -- -- not bring -- doctor -- now who's been standing by with us all morning.
Doctor -- we've talked a little bit about the PT SD not just for the immediate kids who were in the school and the immediate parents.
But for.
All of us the nation -- people in California have emailed people in Washington State.
Heading -- how devastated they are by all of this how how do you start to address that.
Well -- expands outward for the kids at the school according to the national center for -- -- 77% of them are gonna suffer from a very dramatic.
Changes here where they when they start to play they've they feel aggressive.
Where they anticipate the next tragedy and and it's it's just terrible they're going to be nervous thinking they feel a premonition something else coming on -- may feel sadness.
Anxiety very tough to get over therapy will be required even for kids in the neighborhood that we're nowhere near the school.
About thirty or 40% of them will feel the symptoms of PT SB have trouble sleeping low self esteem.
Have trouble connecting with people for the rest of us it depends on how we handle this.
I think a lot of us are very you know focused on the media on our representation here on television.
But what are we telling our children's it -- I think.
I think we have to tell our children to be empathetic to care about the victims to not focus so much on ourself we're talking about our kids' schools.
But the chances of this happening again.
In one of our children's school is so astronomically low and less than 1% of all homicides in the United -- -- around schools less than 1%.
It sure it certainly doesn't seem that way this morning and certainly we have to report this the way the reporting it.
But I don't want my children to be afraid I don't want them to be afraid I want them to care about the children out there.
Which is saying you see can't say you could just tell them flat out it's are -- happening you.
Either you can never be 100% sure but you could come approaching valley is not gonna happen to you this doesn't happen every day this is -- with second worst massacre in the history.
Of our country when it comes to education you could hit him with those stats right.
-- I like exactly the way you just put that you have to -- their questions you have to answer them honestly but look they're also looking at how your answer are you worried.
Do you -- -- you look like you worried to send your child to school tomorrow.
On Monday you know you -- you -- think those statistics out of your own brain first but is not gonna happen at -- school you have to project calm and confidence and -- You want your kids to care for those victims you care for them.
I want to just talk about the the shooter -- killer.
Is it possible he discusses -- of -- last night they -- getting inside his head is about those guys just evil.
Coming to new due to sit in front of a kid and shooting childhood -- five years old and -- is it is that isn't that simple.
Bryant -- all my medical training.
I can look at things clinically and I can give you reasons that I absolutely refused to look at a situation like this where so that somebody.
Allegedly cold blooded -- Guns down children without invoking evil there's an element of -- -- -- -- some not petty waved it off with medical diagnoses insanity.
I don't believe by the way that this is just you know something like a personality disorder even something on the -- -- -- -- noticed this sounds a lot more like someone psychotic someone that.
Is delusional but thinks these children represent something else that isn't that -- personality disorder you're saying what is worse so much worse twenty year old here.
I'm thinking schizophrenia I'm thinking you know bipolar disorder -- thinking that somebody was out of touch completely with -- reality but that doesn't let that person off the -- -- Because plenty of people like that.
Are not going or.
Shooting people that that is that such a good point.
What we're still if you're just joining us we're awaiting a press conference the authorities up in Connecticut are going to release the latest information they've got.
That they Gabbert gathered overnight.
Doctor -- -- You know yesterday the last -- three hours have been really hard for twenty sets of parents because they put their kids you know in the front door that school.
Yesterday morning about this time and -- they remained on the floor.
Overnight it it's you know and for the police say.
Tell us what your child was wearing when they went to school.
That's so hard for parents and then for the parents watching right now you know I've got -- kids who.
Which -- school after Columbine in every time there was another school shooting these.
They would just freak out I mean they hear about it at school and they worry that's gonna happen -- them even though.
You know we did the stuff that you're supposed to do kids still worry.
Steve I can't imagine how parents here have the kind of courage that they've shown I mean the idea of taking that your your child's car seat and putting it in the -- knowing you're never gonna use it against terrible I can't imagine what it would be like I have three children.
You have children I can't imagine what would be like to lose one -- taught my children.
And then to have to face the cameras and then to have to go through criminal investigation.
You know it's just that this is Greenland greatest tragedy and president.
And on top of that too and they talk we have sympathy but the dad Peter.
Finds out from reporters that it was his son there was the assailant and he quickly rolled up as we knew when one into the house you just wonder.
And just say they have thought about the -- How much everything that photo of Gabby Giffords how much that parents know how dean how much they know what -- danger this son ended up -- becoming.
Well of course that's a take home a secure -- I -- you have to wonder if we're getting enough mental health in this country if someone like this you know supposedly on medication.
Did he get enough scrutiny was there enough mental health and advance could this have been prevented.
We're back to about one last thing in terms of the children and I heard some analysts if you agree that if your kids today have heard -- -- or see anything they ask about it less is better.
-- you don't have to give up long philosophical discussions -- -- -- it like answer in one sentence answer.
Right certainty.
Answer with certainty and be careful about letting them be in front of the television all of -- -- you know -- -- and seeing this over and over you don't want to see these images to -- it absolutely.
Thank you doctor -- it.
