-- -- -- School thought to doing everything right -- recently installed the new security system.
Lacking measures that front -- locked the front doors requiring visitors to ring a bell to get inside it to school starts but tragically it was not enough for the 26 people.
Who lost their lives help.
What else can schools do to prepare and protect themselves for a mass shooting scenario like this.
-- -- as a former NYPD detective and a security expert.
-- -- -- thanks so much for sticking around us of course your perspective on this is as a security experts -- we've heard other experts come on this morning and say.
This is very rare.
You shouldn't have your kids obsess about this this will only make your kids nervous you have a different take on that new thank you should prepare your kids for an emergency drill.
How do you do that.
Yeah exactly I mean not why -- was a little kid.
All right I was playing should -- bang bang cowboys in the park every -- these kids that they are doing.
All right they're out there playing video games or some like that so I'm -- and myself listen I was 56 years old -- -- do.
A little bit on how to react to something like this happen I would hit the -- right away because I watched him all -- TV shows that I watch as a kid all right.
But.
You know that the the problem the problem here is that com.
It looks like the school was very prepared.
Does art looks like the Rivera do you like your system right if you like your system idle as -- -- system could be improved down and we didn't improve down.
I'm looking at the best case scenario for you.
All right these are the best things that we can do this is what it's gonna cost you and then we're gonna look at the -- cost effective for you.
Right -- right the new news this morning is in the last hour or so is the fact that this guy.
You know he he shot -- -- it right you know if he wasn't buzzed in he shot through the glass and somehow opened the door right.
It's hard it's hard to Harden.
An entire school -- and they can't protect the president United States 100%.
So we're not going to be able to protect the school 100% but there are certain things we can do to slow the shooter down so we can wait for the police -- It's so how young is too young and where it comes to preparing kids in your mind can you teach five year old a six year old what to do in an active shooter and drill plus percent sure you could make -- -- I mean when I was a kid growing up what we -- when I was in kindergarten you know there was there was -- Soviet threat.
So we had to come out dead duck and cover we had either go under a desk or we had to go -- the hallway -- -- -- -- up against.
Up against the wall are so you can make it again for kids the kids love the play games and that's what the BB who relate to something like this if that happens.
You talk about secure in the door -- and a -- there's so every school school.
Has an ability wind when that alarm goes off right they can quickly dead bolt the doors -- -- the guy who did big question people have now who are writing us and tweeting -- -- Would it be better to have somebody that door armed in a small community like new -- Well again and best -- and -- I say yes you know why because it's our children.
All right that's not good -- so we got police officers security people that are out on the street every day all over this country better armed.
And some people are afraid that even they're armed.
All right and nothing bad happens -- -- a while we have some kind of a problem.
All right but but I personally don't think there's anything wrong with having an armed guard and I'm sure perhaps -- local police for -- -- local police force you know.
There -- somebody is properly trained brag on him I would not have menu form.
-- -- -- -- -- stuff or her how great you very much for being with us -- great job.
