This morning we're talking about security -- -- All of -- the national dialogue at least one thing people are not talking about.
Is how to change the culture clinical psychologist doctor Jeff guard -- you're perhaps thought about that with us before we get to -- the culture.
Is somehow playing a role in this the brother said that the shooter has -- personality disorder help us understand that wonders what is he talking about he says personality disorder.
Well he may be talking about something we call -- -- easily personality disorder or -- so tight -- personality disorder.
And what we know about the these particularly disorders.
People isolate themselves they have a bit of a different reality they don't have many.
Social or interaction skills in that we went to high school judge -- from what we hear and they have their own reality.
We're not saying that -- schizophrenic they don't have hallucinations but they certainly live in a different world and our -- and the world has changed our -- 2030 years the culture has change I was just talk a little bit about.
Apparently this guy was was an expert -- Yeah -- -- maybe there rating system needs to be changed with regard to -- of games and things like that because he seemed to have been deadly accurate Neil well and you might have learned how to do that on those gaming systems.
And that may have led into and supported a lot of the delusional thinking.
This was a very disturbed individual delusional thinking that he may have had so in some ways I think we all have to take responsibility.
Perhaps not letting -- kids.
Play a lot of those games especially.
If they have some emotional issues those are the ones that we keep away from -- CR this is unfolding he's got no friends he's painfully shy as -- is Iraq.
But -- he's got this genius side to him evidently he's people calling somewhat of an evil genius -- very bright.
So where -- gonna go up by yourself in these games we can lose yourself how do you stop that.
Well it is it's very difficult to stop it but it comes back to the purse up a parental responsibility.
But here is the Bane of the existence of many parents if their kids have some of these very severe.
Emotional disorders as those kids get older they become a lot more uncontrollable.
And it really is about getting them perhaps to stay on medication.
Or to be diagnosed so it's difficult for the kids it's difficult for the parents and we need to step up -- mental health system to assist those parents in controlling and work you don't actually have contact -- medication harms us.
Well that they you know there is involuntary medication but again.
You have to respect the rights of the patients there and just because someone may have a schizophrenia or perhaps a personality disorder which -- we don't medicate you can't really force them because you have to respect their rights and that's the conundrum that's where we're really all -- yeah it it is tough and -- and we still don't have a good.
Image of what was going on inside that house up in new town in Connecticut but one thing it sounds like you're talking about the culture.
Has hardened perhaps it needs is change to a a simpler.
More wholesome time and parents need to do their job they need to -- As much as they can and they need to reach out to other parents especially when it becomes difficult I just think this kid -- -- just -- the guy -- -- Rory he's that to me that is in hands on parenting.
That is beyond a good parent I don't know.
I don't know of any parent can rein in that type of mental well and and that is the major issue look people do have mental health issues it doesn't mean that they become violent.
But we have to be able to work with them to beat compliant on their medications to be able to go after the therapy.
But it's difficult the way the mental health system is set up right now it just does not reach out to enough people and as a site as a psychologist.
I have to step up my game and help parents are in dealing with these very difficult situations this is what we all need to do as a society very difficult situation we appreciate your -- -- be seeing you guys a little bit again thanks.
