Welcome to FOX News Sunday panel plus what Brit Hume Nina Easton Bill Kristol and Liz -- Landis.
And there really has been only one story this week and -- a chorus is that the savage massacre -- sandy hook elementary school and you know its policies story.
Share and that's way we've covered on a Sunday show but it's also just a deeply human story I know.
And I wanna talk to all of you about it that my wife Iran and I were up most of Friday night and I just couldn't get out of my mind the image of those little.
Kids in that cold.
To our classroom and their parents.
Who weren't able to get to them and -- them.
I just felt so badly.
-- you wanted to -- whether this might have been worse than you think about we're now at a stage in this where we have.
Training and drills.
In elementary schools.
And it's not just for.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- We didn't have -- evacuation drills because of the possibilities when my correction complex up.
We are Wear down the road here pretty far.
-- and having these horrible incidence.
To the point where schools need to -- this elementary schools and small ten -- this is an ex urban campuses and sober.
This is pushing go where you never imagine -- and yet.
They've been one violent crime in all of last year at the new tactics that one bomb from Africa so -- aunt and you know the stories.
Just so gripping story of Dona Dona -- on the principal who hears this noise there in a meeting and she runs out of the classroom.
Runs to the gunfire.
An unarmed 47 year old woman runs to the gunfire.
And lunges at the shooter.
Loses her life but that was her -- -- government protect my kids to protect my school were victorious out of 27 years old and new first grade teacher.
Who then also when -- that this this.
-- deranged man runs into her classroom.
Stands up and confronts them and allows some of the kids Aden a -- to get out and and saves his life.
And and there are reports to make that principle and even more heroic figure their reports that she actually.
Increased security.
Leading up to this than and that she was trained to confront somebody who came in and so I believe she was.
Acting on her her training you know I'm.
But new security introduced here and somebody turned on the switch right overhead switch makes some good people all around the school could know that there was something going on and they could do audio out and a -- You know it's and it's a new world I think for principles -- interest -- going back to my -- daughter pre K and and her elementary school I had just gotten a phone call.
-- taped phone call four days earlier.
It was a lock down and it was -- Lock down drill and they call you and they tell you this is happening don't panic your kids OK and then they call you several hours later to say everything's okay and it's a way to check your cellphone use.
And that really drove home.
To meet personally as a parent what were up again Tuesday and then this happens.
A few a few days later you know we talked on the panel about -- you know act commission and longer term public policy things that.
It seems like -- in the short run.
We've got to figure out how to.
To help those principles.
Confront this stuff better possibly training them to use stun guns something that's not -- You know not well -- year old.
Principal of a woman isn't good I mean.
It seems to be armed guards make more sense -- -- or armed Barnes and eight armed guards that's and that's obviously you know it's a cost issue but I think it's it.
You know we're gonna have to look at unfortunately how sad that says that even if you do gun -- there's there's a million.
There's always semi automatics already out there -- you've got to find some and from.
Protection for schools at this point -- -- actually even though we keep focusing on these these high profile cases have been dozens of school shooting since the nineties.
And and fil -- again some of that so many of these stories where.
The teachers because they heard in the overhead system that something was going on in the immediately know how to respond.
Gather that although our kids took them into closets and one teacher was talking about.
All the kids and some of them would start to cry and she was scared it.
That they would make a noise -- they cried and that should it would -- -- come in.
And so she's actually a smile smile forming and you know -- -- Monica home for Christmas and she had turned out that in the in the closet.
That there were some -- the paper and crayons and -- usually have them.
Working away in this closet and anything to distract them and keep them under control.
It's just extra.
No they don't seem to finish.
Very admirably raging from the older adults the principal -- the school counselor -- -- 257.
Year old I guess teachers who are teaching their first or second year.
-- who kept their composure and we're very brave and heroic in some cases that and other cases were also brave and also managed to.
-- successfully.
So in that respect when asked to say that for all the worries about the culture is a hole in the country as a whole.
You know an awful lot of adults seem to -- extremely admirably.
Under unbelievable.
Circumstances.
But I think you personal conclusion that everyone is trying is that something has just gone off the rails like this is just not acceptable anymore and -- -- there must -- steps that can be taken that would at least -- obviously we're not going to.
Stop all gun violence we're not -- Get all guns you know take away -- -- -- and you know there's always gonna be disturbed individuals but there must be some steps.
That can be taken that would reduce.
The number of incidents like that's.
You know you look at it this young man out of -- and he obviously was despair and mean there's talk about it again as you say -- we don't know we don't know but.
There is talk -- that he has Asperger's syndrome which is kind of high functioning form of autism.
-- was a -- and medication and he was getting some help and you know how.
There's so many.
Kids -- got issues behavioral issues and are wrong medication and are seeing therapist.
How do you know which one is just think what happens if we as a nation are trying to.
To notice these people.
And to safeguard ourselves and -- think of -- innumerable kids across this country who were a little -- Who -- computer geeks who are not part of -- group school who were isolated and strange and maybe hostile.
Nearly all of them are OK I was doing all of them are not gonna go -- -- and and that's -- really scared of me so -- yes you know it's just people change that this is.
You know we're -- this is a free country and -- was -- you know as the freest country ever it and it's there's always been this kind of wild west component to the way we are as a nation.
And you know you start talking about steps you can take him to deal with the cultural influences and and next steps you can take to deal -- weapons and so -- -- pretty -- -- -- against the First Amendment.
But the Second Amendment.
Because of the X kind of society we've been really from the beginning wild wide open in some ways a free prosperous.
And dangerous.
One last thing.
Just -- and there are always warning signs like that as more information comes out we will have seen that there were possibly warning warning signs with this guys are warning signs from the Virginia Tech shooting.
And certainly column buying.
For us in many of you -- only sounds a little fun of people -- -- -- -- -- coming -- -- credibility -- Most threats and and downloads and again it was stashes of guns and we'll -- -- that we well.
