The nation united after people in his district were hit hard by super storm -- and now its neighbors and Connecticut are struggling with an unthinkable tragedy.

Homeland Security chair congressman Pete king joins us now with reaction congressman king thank you so much for joining us.

Your thoughts you've just had to assist a lot of people suffering in a different way and now something new.

And this is just so indescribable I mean any natural disaster we have is terrible enough.

But to have the random vicious -- of young children like this it's you know really beyond belief I I can -- of any -- incident like this.

Which is really -- the American -- way this has which is -- such a raw nerve.

As cause such sorrow so -- says thoughts thoughts -- prayers go out.

To the families of these are people also to the young kids who -- I mean I'm just trying to think -- back when you were in grade school.

You know these are tough enough trying to go one after the -- the kid next few of the trial next your your best friend that was -- to kill was just.

To me it's been described or are we really as a country have to find some way.

To confront this this is.

It's almost like I don't dumbing down is right expression but it seemed like every tragedy here every mass -- Is worse than one before -- -- -- we think we've hit the worst in Colorado than you have them all my you have this.

It just seems deserves the the country at least in some respects is it you hate your real down -- -- -- We did see we continue to see in the wake of super -- -- in the a lot of good samaritans a lot of positive things and and people reach out from themselves even when they're suffering to help others.

Do you think in that we will be able to see that here again as soon as these very very fresh violence -- at least in some small way began to heal.

Why these -- that you're tight.

I think we're seeing already obviously -- neighbors friends.

Law enforcement.

Clergy everyone coming together.

Mental health professionals everyone or free to help.

He restored after 9/11 we see who's seen it after Katrina we've seen have to sandy.

And obviously to me was seeing it already in net.

Connecticut and and that really is -- that's the real hot it's over there so I don't -- -- be overly down and I say that the country is in decline.

There are elements of a country who declined but the real heart and soul of America I believe is stronger than ever.

And it course life continues and work continues for many people and -- this week your work on -- hill will include.

A lot of things as we have so many issues confronting the nation but they're -- Ben Ghazi hearings that will be held one house one in the senate this week.

But news we're getting -- that Secretary Clinton is ill has been injured with a concussion will not testify are you confident that.

Others who will show up in her place will be able to provide some much needed answers.

-- I'm surely provide answers but to really find -- what happened we ultimately.

I believe Secretary Clinton will have to testify I've had great respect.

The Secretary Clinton and no one would know more about this and she would and no one will be in a position really to answer.

The tough questions -- Secretary Clinton so.

-- when she's recovered I believe it is important to testify -- know that the chairwoman of the house foreign affairs committee Ileana Ross Layton is said that she believes that.

Secretary Clinton still was in -- -- to witness.

And I agree with that and this is a what happened -- -- -- there's so many so many.

Unanswered questions and appears to so many things went wrong there also appears that it's too many people in in in the administration.

We're trying to put out a four story.

-- -- accounts I believe for the constant changing and changing of the story as we've gone on and the still unanswered question so no ultimately.

I would Secretary Clinton we'll testified that she really is indispensable to try to tie this all together.

And on a domestic issue of course the fiscal cliff continues.

On the horizon.

Reports last night the house speaker John Boehner would be open to raising tax rates on those who make a million dollars or more in exchange for major cuts elsewhere.

Is that an idea you could support or for you is -- a no go there any tax rate increases.

No I have given like -- to John -- he's -- -- he's our leader he's and then negotiating we're never gonna get the perfect deal.

But I have -- I'm confident that John will get the best deal that we can consist -- our principles.

You know the president won the election Democrats took the -- we took the house.

So there is the bargaining going on I think it's wrong for Republicans to be second guessing what John but -- been might be doing -- Lay up positions -- what they can -- cannot support.

I've told John that based on my knowledge of him and his commitment.

I am prepared to support the agreement that he -- negotiates convinced that if the best agreement that we can get under the circumstances.

I congressman Peter King sir we thank you for your time today show thank you.
