There's an ironic twist to the shooting in Connecticut that is touched off a new gun debate.

We are getting reports that gun sales are soaring in a number of states over the last few days Trace Gallagher has the details from our West Coast newsroom -- And -- you go back to column -- and Aurora and Virginia Tech everytime there -- a Mac shooting in this country gun sales dramatically rise and experts say that's for a couple of reasons one.

For personal safety and true because people believe the government will ban certain types of weapons like assault rifles.

Here now are two different views on the issue -- As far as assault weapons.

Keep in mind President Clinton put a ban on assault rifles back in 1994.

That ban expired in 2004.
