Bob did you another web sites are tracking what you do in passing along information like your name your email I just even your username.

To other vendors how can you stop them from doing that joining us.

Which is tips is privacy and security expert and editor of still Leo dot com John silly John great to see you.

Good morning again -- Wall Street Journal did a study and they looked at the top 1000 web sites that make out at 785%.

Of them.

Now use code from social networks like FaceBook or Twitter what's wrong with that.

Well you know it -- to date myself with the -- from the eighties.

Every step you take every click you make they're watching you we -- we are constantly being monitored as we surf around on these different web sites.

As we just said what ends up happening is that they provide they pass along some information that you don't know that they're passing alongside -- Your real name.

Your email address even your username that you're using which is obviously can be different -- -- your real name but again what's the danger of that.

You know the danger now is with sites like FaceBook and Google and Twitter that work constantly logged into.

It's not just that we're being tracked its that is being tied to -- specific identity.

It's you know it's kind of like the marauders map and Harry Potter.

We're not just dots on the web anymore we're now actually been identified by name as we serve and that's all being tracked and aggregated on us.

I've read that bit you said that one of the problems is it let's say that FaceBook knows that we've done some research on diabetes say.

Well then.

They might sell that information to I don't know an insurance company or something and then when you go for a quote they already know.

-- you have this interest or susceptibility and they give you a higher quote.

Yeah exactly they they have -- the information from the previous web sites that you have been too.

And they know that your potentially high risk -- you use it may have been your daughter.

Doing a research project for a school project but if you type in diabetes they think hey this is a high risk person rates go up.

Interest and arts let's talk about how we can stop all the this the first -- is in naval private browsing what does that.

Yes so inside of your browser you've got a couple of settings including private browsing.

That don't leave all of these little traces as you as you served through they're not they're not stored on your machine.

And you -- -- -- sights a little bit more private than just being wide open OK you say turn on do not track where you turn that on.

-- do not track is almost always in every browser in your preferences and what that does is it sends a message out.

To the website listen I don't wanna be -- not all web sites follow it yet but as people get more privacy -- they'll begin to.

Okay say number three clear out your cookies I do that from my kitchen what do you mean with your computer.

-- your computer these little bits that are tracked are stored in in a place called your cookies which means.

Next time you returned to the site.

They they know everything about you when you come back.

You can hit a button in your browser.

Again in the preferences that clears those cookies out so that they're not constantly tracking you from site to site OK you say log out -- -- looking Google so it's not not to just close out that.

Yeah -- know when you log out of of those accounts now your specific identity is no longer tied to your.

Your surfing behavior so that they're not tracking you as an individual.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Yeah exactly there are services now that -- you have a disposable email address you sign up for it and use that address for one purchase only.

You finish the transaction and it goes -- way you're no longer.

Tied specifically you've not -- that identity to your shopping or surfing behavior got it.

If you want to green green and recap all of these tips I'm sure you -- you can go to still Leo dot com or Boston red dot com.

And we will take you through them step by step how to do everything that John just suggested Johnson earlier thanks so much from the -- You've got to have safe holiday.
