Just in the US marine veteran who spent four months behind bars and -- Mexico's most violent prisons is now home.

This is my favorite Christmas story because John -- was jailed and really deplorable conditions on a questionable gun charge in Mexico.

He had been taken now to a US hospital with flu like symptoms just arriving back at his family's home in Florida and that's where Steve Harrigan is live from -- -- bay.

Florida -- Steve what a Christmas gift for this family.

-- it was remarkable to see here just for five minutes ago John -- and his father drove right up into the garage.

-- senior came out and spoke to the media for a few minutes afterwards.

He told me that this is the greatest Christmas he ever had he looked visibly exhausted John hammer was released.

Friday after several hours more paperwork after spending four months inside that Mexican prison.

Father and son drove back the goal always to get here by Christmas Day.

-- have to stop off in a hospital in Louisiana.

But John junior dehydrated suffering some stomach flu is well his father said they're not sure about his condition that right now he can barely stand up.

But he is at home we just walked inside he is with his mother and father and his father really seems like I'm very excited man right now Jamie.

You know the Mexican government.

It even with the pressure from us to keep him for four months change with handcuffs to a bad.

It's been such an ordeal all along the way for this family and they had a lot of support why did take so long Steve.

They really tried to go through back channels initially but then they made a much more public push to get him out at least think people in the community.

As well as their congresswoman and both senators as well.

His mother Olivia said just a short time ago that once he was across the border it's really the first time she has gotten any relief in the past four months.

-- -- my first night that I slept all night long without getting out and this is.

The thought of not wondering what's the economic and as anyone can anyone hurt him tonight and that's at -- It was a real public push by the entire community here -- in France as well as their congresswoman.

Ileana Ross Leighton -- to really put the pressure on the Mexican government to move.

And so they did move they move up a trial date in January.

They said John hammer had no criminal intent in bringing that sixty year old weapon across the border.

So he's back home now what his family came back and those charges dropped right.

Right but right now is to get that rifle back which he's intent on doing is Winnebago and is nine surfboards.

All right Steve thanks so much just keep us posted what's happening at the house were very happy for that family.

-- Christmas.
