Thanks for staying with us I'm Laura Ingraham in for Bill O'Reilly and the factor follow up segment tonight.

As we told you last night that journal news -- New York area newspaper is facing intense criticism.

After the outfit posted a map on -- the web site showing their names and addresses of local gun permit holders.

Well now and very funny blogger has turned the tables on the paper and publish the names and addresses.

Of the journal news publisher and the reporter who wrote the story and several other members of the papers that.

Joining us now from Dallas Fox News contributor Mike Gallagher the author of the book fifty things liberals love -- -- And from Orlando First Amendment attorney Lawrence Walters I must say I smiled.

When I lied about what this -- -- I was mad that I don't think in the first.

Hi guys this is just good with the good for the good stead for the gander Gallagher at -- Know that published the names of the gun permit holders to -- the Blogosphere on fire and Twitter of course because Italy.

Think that's trying to intimidate the people clearly -- -- lawful gun owners -- had.

I mean I I I understand the merits of his argument Laura but I think it's a really really ugly businesses start getting into publishing people's personal -- I mean the -- the blogger is right he's -- out the hypocrisy.

What these anti gun zealots -- -- are trying to do but on the other hand.

I think it's a right and we we should have learned something from stalkers and people can show up on somebody's doorstep.

Surely there's a way to argue there's this issue on the merits I mean the anti gun nuts are only using new town as an opportunity to -- to advance their agenda but.

I I don't think it's a real good idea for for for our our side -- the second in the pro Second Amendment side.

To got to go out crawling around in the gutter with with those guys and do the same thing I.

Aren't very good -- in the point on the merits argue the point on the merits don't get -- -- -- game of -- publishing names aliens are that's photo -- mr.

Both go to mr.

Walters here so all I what's the deal there's anything wrong with doing out of me.

A look at it privacy is privacy in public figures and we want privacy but -- and someone wants to find out -- Olympic and find out where you have but they gun issue is different right.

Good that's not readily available that information you kinda have to hunt around for that it.

Foyer request of some sort of the state and out find out where the guns are but -- the newspaper editors they're not happy here.

Well there's two issues here really to aspects of the -- one is legally it was it legal to do this -- laws broken at the First Amendment would clearly protect the rights to publish the information about the names and addresses on both sides both the blogger and the newspaper while the the information might require some -- it is public information -- was released in response to a four -- requests so.

And once that's released its readily available public information.

The First Amendment freedom of the press would protect that but then there's also the the ethical issue.

It was a responsible for either side to do it just because you have information as a journalist doesn't necessarily mean that you should publish it.

And this is where journalistic ethics should have come into play and maybe cooler heads should have prevailed.

And certainly we we don't need to.

Allow.

Both sides to ratchet this debate up and use the new -- shootings as a a means to to create further divide between the two sides on the -- And then batter and just thinking about that's Gallagher for -- for the -- to say how would you like it if your name's.

We're -- -- -- we have your I mean we have here addresses that's how I would have done on Twitter -- we have you guys -- -- no we're not literally make it because we have -- avenue down.

Tell you we could we could say you know listen we we have access to we can play that 92 can play that game but let's not actually play that game because now you've got a bunch of people who were vulnerable and exposed.

Any crazy out there who wants to I was a bad idea it's bad press -- Point and when you look at this -- was -- way this debate is going right it's not surprising because.

That those -- you really have a deep commitment to the Second Amendment.

They're very concerned when they start looking at the details of Dianne feinstein's bill that she was the original -- original authors of the original assault weapons ban in 1994.

And her website has a number of different points.

Outlining what she's going to do with her new legislation and it goes.

Quite a bit.

Beyond the original assault weapons ban which we now.

Didn't really have that much of an effect on.

Of a gun crime in the United States some people are very aware it.

And the -- about finger playing -- that -- registries and all the rest they're concerned so it's no surprise visit.

I'm mr.

Walters that this kind of thing would happen.

People are very mad about us.

Yeah that this the shootings have sparked outrage on both side -- and it's no surprise yep both sides and and that's why you see these you know these kind of outrageous publications coming out.

And it's it's it's not the end of it unfortunately you know be nice if if we could take it down a notch and have a reason debates on what it would.

Pass protect can't -- -- problem is liberals don't want -- the facts on gun crime.

And -- -- -- Laura thank NATO agreed Geary Claxton ID.

And they need to understand that there have been professors that have been fired the -- -- festival -- For fabricating information on got back remember -- Talk about Iraq.

I remember whether Rahm Emanuel once said they've they've never won a letter crisis go to waste you know they're trying to you now to advance an agenda and it's pathetic thing -- Donna thanks so much out.
