We'll give it a close eye on North Korea's next move is new photographs show the rogue nation could conduct an atomic test.

Well it's a move that has Washington and indeed the world on high alert.

David piper -- more now streaming live from Bangkok Thailand David.

-- against these latest satellite images -- released by the Associated Press.

Do seem to indicate increased activity.

At that nuclear test site in North Korea.

Experts who looked at the pictures say they've been repairing some flood damage but they also say this more warts are now pouring.

-- one of the tunnels.

For that at the nuclear test site.

Now the work being done -- us right at least indicates that they are maintaining a state to -- in this in case they get some kind of go ahead.

From Pyongyang to conduct a third test.

But analysts warn it's very difficult to really welcome -- there are two because of these some satellite images mainly because most nuclear test preparations are done deep within the -- -- Now if they decide to push ahead that it would hit a polished production of nuclear brinkmanship by this secretive Coleman estate.

Back in 2006 and 2009.

Off to conducting long range missile tests and facing worldwide condemnation and UN sanctions North Korea then went ahead.

-- its first shouldn't atomic explosions.

Now on December the twelfth as we know it successfully launched a long range rocket.

We're now waiting of course for any word from the UN on the response from them -- perhaps sanctions more sanctions which could of course trigger some kind of nuclear test from North Korea now -- three stage rocket personal check into -- it Pyongyang says it's part of its space program.

But US and its allies say it's in -- Intercontinental.

Missile test.

Which has been banned by the UN in the polls because of those -- missile tests -- -- after analyzing the first stage of the rocket they recovered.

From the latest test South Korea's defense ministry warns the technology involved shows that North Korea already has the capability.

To -- missed so.

That could reach America's West Coast experts say they could go -- years before Pyongyang he's able to arms such a missile with a nuclear warhead.

But the concern is if North Korea conducts another nuclear test they could learn more about how to miniaturized technology.

Which is a key step in building a nuclear weapons program but of course -- now just waiting to find out.

If came Jong -- in the new young leader of North Korea.

-- will take another step and conduct a third nuclear test thank you -- David but we're live in Bangkok David thanks.

Well for more on this let's bring in Michael Osmond he's the director of Japan studies and residence scholar of Asia and at -- American Enterprise Institute thank you so much for joining us.

-- -- So what is discuss that you had this article that you wrote for the national review online and the very first line under article says this.

Save yourself a few precious minutes and ignore everything.

That the US government says about North Korea.

So what is going on.

Well the truth is we don't know what's going on -- -- pretty clueless about North Korea and all we know is that when.

It's time for the holidays and for us to relax a little North Korea's gonna do something crazy like launching rockets on July 4.

Or maybe setting off another nuclear test around new years I mean -- you know we go through these cycles.

We assume that one day we're gonna get them back to the negotiating table.

We try to do that and then they turn around and and they break their promise and were right back to where we started from so.

My point is I think we should stop really thinking about what we can do to handle this situation and rather except that the north Koreans control the table on this.

-- do nothing.

Well what can we do you know we're not going to attack.

Sanctions the Chinese and the Russians don't help us on sanctions.

They've been pretty ineffective because China stepped in the increase trade and give more support.

You know when you look at it everything that we've tried after the bush years has been a failure now.

During the bush years in the early part of of that administration they put some real financial squeeze on the regime in that seem to be working.

But then they -- dropped it because they have this fantasy that if we can just sit down one more time with the north Koreans.

Suddenly we'll have a deal that will make all of this go away and and that's not how the world works in the north Koreans are getting better each time at launching missiles and setting off nuclear explosions.

And and on that note how realistic do you think it is and how -- do you think that it would be that they would.

In fact be able to -- one of these a long range missiles with a nuclear warhead.

You -- that's the real question right I mean now right now that look this this last missile test was real important.

Because it showed that they were successful and they got it up into the atmosphere.

They got -- they can go a long way maybe to the United States now.

If they perfect setting off nuclear explosions and then start miniature rising it being able to put it on a missile.

It changes everything everybody in the region is at risk and maybe even were at risk.

But you know what we have no good options we've walked ourselves down this road.

Believing that one day we could negotiate with them.

And one day maybe real soon you know within a year or two we're gonna have a nuclear armed North Korea with bombs on top of Intercontinental ballistic missiles what do we do -- My -- fine thank you so much for joining us we appreciate able to I'll.
