The nation's largest sitting on track this year for its fewest number of homicides on record.

New York mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that today at a police graduation ceremony he often calls New York the safest big city in America.

There have been 414 homicides in New York City so far this year that's the lowest number.

Rate I should say murder rate since the city started keeping it reliable records in 1963.

Meanwhile the city of Chicago could soon mark a grim milestone.
