I have given senate leaders a short timeline to come up with a plan to avoid the fiscal cliff.

But if we don't over the cliff many of you have already decided who -- to blame.

A recent poll shows that 44%.

Would blame Republicans in congress -- 36% would blame President Obama.

Here to help us sort it all out are -- -- -- Republican strategist and former chief of staff to the republic -- senate Republican conference.

And -- -- -- democratic strategist and former Iowa Press Secretary for vice president Al Gore.

-- you saw that poll that we just showed you on who who gets the blame for this important and in the Rasmussen does -- give President Obama.

Maybe some breathing room to hold out for perhaps more taxes on -- high wage earners because if we go over the cliff so be it is going to be worse for Republicans.

I don't think either side wants this to happen I think President Obama does not -- -- give an inaugural address with the country in fiscal financial ruin.

And Republicans don't wanna go over it over to click the -- either you want to start out.

In a new congress.

In the new year on the right foot with a bipartisan agreement that's why a little more confident that we'll have a smaller -- Hopefully before New Year's.

OK -- wanna play sound bite from the conservative columnist political analyst Charles Krauthammer on the fiscal cliff.

And get your take on meticulous in the child's.

It's been very clear from the beginning.

Said he had no intention to solve.

The fiscal issues he's been using this and I must say with great skill and ruthless skill and success.

To fracture and basically shatter.

The Republican opposition.

The only you know ripped out of the opposition is the house.

And he -- objective from the very beginning.

Was to break the will of the Republicans in the house and created internal civil war and he's done that.

Talking about President Obama trying to create an internal civil war among Republicans.

Is this -- you think it's some sort of grand strategy.

By the White House I don't think President Obama needs you anything I think the presence of -- a very effective job of creating their own division within their party.

Look I think to a lot of Americans it's actually bigger than I think that.

We solved the debt limit fight last summer.

And the fiscal cliff drama that's happening right now as -- the first and last chapters in -- book that spells the end of the modern Republican Party.

I I would go to bars -- -- I think that lesson.

The definite -- last summer is probably the first time that people solve the Tea Party controlled house as willing to push us into economic ruin -- short term political gain.

And they were wrong they lost November fairly resoundingly and yet there are still members of John -- party that are.

Willing to double down on their mistakes and push is an economic -- and again.

-- I can tell you're ready to jump out of you're skin -- that I got civil war and Republicans in the end of the modern Republican Party is that what's happening on the.

You know not at all I think right now we're dealing with -- in these.

The last couple days now is -- as a deal over tax rates Republicans are trying to save as many taxpayers as possible from taxes rising.

Once -- we get in next year Obama loses the President Obama loses his leverage over tax rates which he called a political mandate.

We will be fighting for its spending cuts and entitlement reform.

And that's the price -- -- for a debt ceiling increase that's -- price of admission.

-- for getting rid of the defense cuts sequestration issues will have tremendous leverage I can tell you.

The Democrats need to be very careful about the overreach here.

There there they have leverage right now on the tax rates that goes away next year.

Let's play a little what if game with both of you what if there's some sort of stripped down package in the senate they can get through the senate.

Then what position does that put John Boehner and in the house does -- go along with that does not does he really hold firm that you know we've got to get -- them the rate higher the level higher tax rates -- of 500000 dollar to even up to million.

What is John what's John Boehner play here -- we'll start with you.

I think he's -- shown that he is abdicating his responsibility in these negotiations he's -- he basically said.

Look it's up to you guys in the senate will you know amend or look at whatever it is that you.

That you have passed because.

He's already failed within his own party that was obviously the disastrous.

Plan -- -- that he couldn't even bring to the floor.

So I would say that if he does amended it all he has to amended very little realizing that the power here is with the Democrats and -- Asia Ron.

Well the speaker propose to plan that Republican that the report Republicans and accept and no no Democrats would except.

So therefore we're going near the speaker has is likely to go along with -- -- a plan he has said.

The senate it's up to you now if you sense -- -- work considerate and I think that's a message.

That the house will end up passing something -- a bipartisan level but it has to be bipartisan.

I think if if Democrats were looking at this bill and -- -- and I don't think you're gonna see anybody for.

Okay real quick we only had about ten seconds left just yes -- -- over the fiscal -- -- yes briefly.

Ron only partially -- of a small deal that'll save some taxpayers money and the rest yes we will go over the.

I heard it here I was the first and that's -- -- Christie that's it thank you much are they to be here.
