-- despite the last minute deal passed by just the senate just a few hours ago the US is technically fallen off the fiscal cliff.

The house hasn't voted yet present hasn't signed it yet so why couldn't -- and solve this earlier do you need to brinkmanship to get things done.

I'm joined right now by democratic strategist every -- -- a spokesperson for the American.

Majority action fund Ron Meyer run do you believe is is just a typical to this.

Era of congressional leaders that we need to brinksmanship.

Well frankly I think it's typical -- air that we have to wait the last minute to pass everything and that's just not -- -- -- run things this was planned all along the fourth the last minute so people would just be grateful that something passed.

But what are we passing something that's totally unbalanced up 41 a one.

Is spending hike.

Our side tax hike -- spending -- ratio it's actually it's crazy to say the president all along has been advocating for bounced approach and this is where we ended up.

Really we've been holding out a way to running the clock so that we can pass -- that the Democrats love which is attack site -- -- spending cuts right and we know that this the CBO says right now people don't we just anything with the tax hikes.

In there in their own spending in their own savings in their -- investing -- We do know -- gonna provide less than -- -- dollars over the next ten years and -- trillion off kilter each and every year leading up to that.

So he's tactically.

Rise a 100% right.

-- what you're witnessing today is simply pretending they're going over the fiscal cliff in the sense that -- millions of Americans -- gonna cut their taxes increase.

And quite frankly nobody's -- Republicans or Democrats about this bill and they're based kind of -- Holding their nose -- voting for it because we do have to reduce the budget in this country.

It's very hard to get agreement how we're gonna do it but the reality is is that 98% of Americans should not see an increase in their taxes.

We put that we've.

It just.

Kick the can down the road for two months we're gonna see another -- on what I call new March Madness -- we have never seen in.

In March and unfortunately even to get to this point to get.

The vote the -- needed to postpone her to make permanent what it thinks -- is happening is that these bush tax cuts have been made permanent for 98% of Americans.

You have to get the dry -- so for -- could -- -- right.

So well let's -- now they have been him.

-- our nation voted talk about this what's gonna happen now you think march is gonna be -- I think tomorrow in today's going to be big.

When we talk about the debate in the house run bring -- inside the house debate is this thing got a pass what's -- -- be state.

And may pass but it won't have the majority of the Republican support in fact I think it may have as few as fifty boats now out.

And it may not even be voted on by John Boehner John Boehner may vote no on this plant because he needs to safe basically has to pass this.

With as few as fifty he and I wanna save face for his -- election which is a two days and actually vote with the conservatives on this I think that could very well happen.

This plant -- his number this morning is wildly unpopular in the GOP caucus they think it's outrageous that McConnell that that there are sad about it.

And frankly working with Joseph Biden think that shows where this gets you I think.

That were basically tossing young people off the -- we're tossing that this fiscal battle off the cliff we're giving away all of our leverage we're not doing anything to help.

The American people on the launch ever in -- tank the economy and if so is this is just poorly done by -- by Republicans from a negotiating standpoint.

Did he would you felt better if we were debating the pros and.

Cons of Simpson Bowles and trying to hash that out when we feel so much better about that process.

Yes actually I would and I hope that we can get back to Simpson -- process.

I -- beginning but he's trying to throw people off to -- one of things.

That our founding fathers didn't -- come up with the art of compromise nobody's happy so maybe that means something or a whole lot.

We're definitely trying to throw like the quote unquote wealthy optical there's not about that about that pres Obama said this is just beginning of attack -- yesterday he said this is just to start.

But will look at again when we're talking about negotiating for the debt ceiling so this is just the start of lying to -- -- job created and people -- give my generation jobs.

Off the cliff saying that we're gonna somehow balance the budget off the wealthy we could tax the wealthy at a 100%.

And we still an enviable list -- closed the deficit.

But we -- don't -- it happened so to say that we're gonna go ahead and and just ruin our economy just for the sake of Obama is class warfare and his ideology I think it.

-- I'm not into strident language right now I think everybody Republicans and Democrats agreed that we've got to reduce the the budget deficits I would like to see -- get -- -- -- balls we've got to have real conversations that everything is on the -- ball.

-- all generations are coming having the discussion.

Our young young people are 25% of our population but a 100% of our future so we -- Kara.

Hope I hope Obama -- with you that's like insane but I he's not I was look at it one of the would you would say -- democratic friendly.

Blog site and they said leverage lost and they were saying how the president blew it.

So it just goes to show your perceptions back and forth or -- or pretending as if they lost.

But I just wonder if it is going to be different in the debt ceiling is there any more leverage that the Republican House has.

That they did not she did they did not have in this debate did you see -- Iran.

Well I think that they have to use the leverage -- the debt ceiling saying hey this is and this is one thing I think is really important to point out if we -- the debt -- it means we have to run a balanced budget so it's not the end of the world yes we have to make some some bad cuts that we don't have that we are we're low on revenue and we have extremely high spending right now.

But guess what he's got to run -- -- but until we can figure out where to go from here so it's not the end of the world.

And Republicans need to treat it like that like that because we have to get something done we happen next four years if we keep honing messing keep kicking the can down the road and not doing anything to address entitlements.

My generation folks my age and even the people who are who are middle -- now -- -- have not see these benefits anymore is increasing taxes it paid interest payments to see interest payments not the principle every year on the debt.

-- -- -- I would say that what we need is a lot less taking shots at each other and we need to going to room and have some very serious conversation.

Everybody's got to -- it's got to be a mixture.

Revenue increases its hero I think everybody you crazy that speech yesterday it was awful lot of bombing he came just took shots across the across that I think you agree -- -- -- It was.

Let's just say I hope that march -- this is his status I think it made -- strive -- that you can't agree in the in the interview on Sunday was a walk in the park either.

Thanks so much -- injury you debate both that was great job.

Happy new -- -- same to you.
