This is a Fox News alert you're looking live at the house floor just gavel back in -- session they'll be taking.

Some votes that don't have to deal with the fiscal -- legislation.

And they'll be counting heads essentially to see where the votes are.

Four of the different.

Options -- is to amend the senate bill and send it back to the senate the other one -- to do a straight up or down vote on the senate bill.

Joining us now for some inside perspective on that GOP conference made in the just broke up a few minutes ago let's bring in Republican congressman Scott Garrett.

From New Jersey he is the vice chairman of the House Budget Committee.

Inside that meeting had just got out a congressman thanks for joining us and -- it's a busy night out there on the hill.

What do you what can you tell us about what happened -- what the strategy is for Republicans going.

-- Probably the house has been put in this situation where -- because of the lateness of the senate vote as you well know it's.

So much 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning the senate did their thing.

Of course -- somebody setting conference nothing ever good happens at 2 o'clock in the morning I think that's the case here they sent us over a bill.

And are trying to -- basically jam it on the house and and leave town as the senate is often want to do.

But I think they leave the house is trying to do the responsible thing leadership is trying to do -- -- to the listening thing.

So we've had a conference they're leadership was throwing out a couple options you laid out -- of the options just a moment ago.

We're gonna see if we get to that magic number of -- it to.

-- so what is the feeling -- it when you look around the room and and get a sense of the conference meeting there you get a sense that there is.

There are 218 members who want to amend this bill and send it back.

Why wouldn't want -- you know I really wouldn't want to be -- right now because I could not tell you would walking out of that door that there was 218 votes this way or that way and that's literally.

-- why.

Kevin McCarthy has to do this to whip on this here's something you get a sense of the people going to the microphone -- one -- the microphone basically.

It in the conference are really does raising the concerns have been raising all along you know the fact that the president said.

A long time ago that you -- cut your way to prosperity and instead he wants to what did he wants to tax his way to prosperity I think there's still a strong push back to that that we just can't tax our way and raise taxes and I think that's really what.

Members are anxious about.

-- congressman the CBO score for the senate bill actually has the increase and increase in spending each year.

With the over the ten years the united national debt increasing almost four trillion dollars you're a fiscal conservative.

You obviously have a problem with that but considering the implications.

Of not acting is that are you going to vote against this bill.

So if you raise two -- so yes I certainly have concerns about the in increased spending but let's get let's have an inside look at that stuff.

On some of that increase spending is what we call -- tax expenditures those are tax credits and that sort of thing that.

Most Republicans have -- either support or have supported back in 2001 before I got here to some that's spending is really tax credits expenditures so it's not sure -- -- -- understood that you got.

And on the other side of the equating your second point -- your question is is this fast.

Going going forward we really should not be looking at a package which -- -- the senate has sent to us.

That is going to do what he's gonna raise taxes even on small businesses.

Also allowing that thinks -- -- tax expenditures or rather exemptions.

For big business to remain in place that's really what the senate has done here this that small businesses 450 a little bit of -- two million dollars -- still small business.

You're gonna see your taxes go up bigger businesses you know you're going to be treated favorably and that's what the president has.

Been pushing along and that's what some of us have concerns here so that sounds like -- notes -- there.

There well I have not been with yet been so wait until you -- among -- -- always two of the logistics plan for -- -- people at home which means.

-- them the leaders -- -- of your party to be able to convince you to vote one way or another vote which way they -- it but -- that's a typical definition of weapons in this -- there's -- there's -- -- this -- this is clearly Kevin -- really is doing a -- of the -- he's not twisting -- he's not trying to force goes one way or the other he's just literally trying to get a sense of the mood in the fuel economy congress for the conference and going that direction.

What about the Denny pastor ruled the so called majority of the majority.

It do you think -- speaker Boehner gets the point where he does not have a majority of his caucus voting for the senate bill.

That he would have to pass -- with the democrats' votes and not a majority of his own caucus that he will move forward.

You know that that's really an excellent question you bring up the -- -- that's that's goes back a few years.

But -- I think that's what speaker Boehner has said he'll he'll take these since the -- conference now.

Either go on one and two direction and one of the directions he may decide to go and depending on this vote goes is to do exactly what you said suggest.

And that could conceivably be with the Democrats.

It's not the majority -- giving a sizable number of votes to look passes legislation the point.

Congressman Scott Garrett from New Jersey vice president at a vice chairman rather of the House Budget Committee -- from Gary really appreciate the time pleasure and we'll follow every development by the hour.
