Illinois Republican senator Mark Kirk was ready for a big year in 2012.
When it happened the 52 year old Kirk had emergency surgery following -- weekend stroke the stroke nearly killed him.
Then came months of painful rehabilitation.
Kirk kept his Illinois constituents updated -- with videos on his senate website extranet.
