Lawmakers in Putnam county New York not giving -- -- journal news his request to publish names and addresses of citizens who have legal gun permits.

So does this move infringe on personal privacy.

And actually leave non gun owners more vulnerable.

Here -- in a supporter Putnam county's decision to withhold that information.

New York assemblyman Steve Katz -- thanks so much stock sank.

So why do you see why do you support that you don't think the counting ought to be giving this.

Information to the press.

I think that what he journal news has done is so irresponsible.

We've seen it already in Westchester and in Rockland.

You've got for example they woman who's in my district.

Called up.

She has been plagued by a stalker for years.

She moved.

For two years she was safe hasn't heard a thing.

After this list was published.

Two days later she received a hundred phone calls that -- hang ups.

That's horrifying.

And so that is just one example of what we're hearing Rockland county.

You're hearing about law enforcement agents and corrections officers who the inmates are telling them that we now know where you live -- This was I mean let's just be honest the journal news didn't do this in order to enhance public safety this was an editorial of sorts designed to make the point that guns are scary.

And legal gun ownership is somehow a threat to our state.

Or worse than that they -- they've basically made a dream map for.

Perpetrators.

For criminals and stalkers.

This is an interactive map.

That shows where they live you can now Google.

Google Earth the exactly where they live you can see where their car on their license plates.

We're clearly at a point now where.

You've got an intersection of the law.

And technology.

And what's morally right so -- in New York State protects information personal information of all kinds I can't get your medical records I can't get that school record correct.

-- the laws be changed to protect the home addresses of legal -- we are doing everything possible to.

Enact these laws right now there's a bill in the New York State Senate that's going to be coming in to protect our privacy.

And assemblyman -- a Democrat in the assembly.

Is also putting in a bill for the same purpose but for him what would be the argument against that.

Quite frankly there is -- even in the foil requests the foil requests the freedom of information law requests.

Stipulate that.

It cannot be disseminated that information cannot be disseminated if it will cause harm to any citizen.

It is also not supposed to be disseminated if it's going to be used for profit purposes yet which is clearly what the journal news has done of course -- -- Well good luck godspeed in an effort thank you so I don't think they thought.
