And welcome to our FOX News Sunday panel plus with Brit Hume Nina Easton Bill Kristol and Charles Lane left off the program talking about gun control it's -- Charles Lane who didn't have a chance to respond.

You know ten bills introduced in the house of representatives on Thursday all of them dealing with some aspect of gun control.

When you look at the language in the surface at least looks like none of them would have prevented the new -- Shooting -- low and is that it is is is what they're looking at really effective here is a just a political respond well.

I must -- -- very mixed feelings about this in some sense John no law could prevent a new town.

If you look at what happened in Norway couple years ago.

Where they have very very tight controls and a very very small country and answer session at 6075.

People -- of -- which -- -- an explosive and the rest with -- So somebody's determined and crazy and evil enough to do it it will be done.

The question is is there anything real we can do to make a little bit harder at the margin and there I do think there's a case to be made even with all the loopholes.

For limiting these high capacity magazines now why do I say that.

Even though gun homicides and homicides generally have dropped in the last one years what you can show an increase in in the last.

Half dozen years is mass shootings okay.

And these have been carried out with weaponry that have high capacity magazines and really when you think about it what's the civilian purpose.

For a magazine like that what's the hobbyists sports interest there might be one but it's pretty marginal it's not central.

To what gun ownership is all about.

And I think with all the sort of -- -- some limitations that is a sensible measure that.

Might help but the margins and their reports.

It's -- and when you have somebody -- though like Adam Lance who.

Shot his mother stole her legally purchased and registered firearms took three of them to the school one which failed by one himself having failed struck by himself.

Stole from his mother to three guns to school.

Two handguns and then this bushmaster.

What in any legislation.

Existing or proposed could stop that.

And she collected assault weapons legally.

If they weren't in her home legally would he would he would have picked up a shotgun and shot some -- he wouldn't you have you had six year -- They have three to eleven bullet wounds per child and its sister and OK I'm going to and I am I keep saying that -- you're that we forget this you know and these tragedies happen.

You know my nephews that friend was killed at Virginia attack and -- he was there.

And if you see these and then we forget about -- talk about doing something we forget about it yes our mental health since system has huge holes and I.

But that's -- -- and yes we should go down that road and yes you know I have never been a fan of which -- you -- you by the way the act this this letting people but you don't -- out of determined that it you know develop -- -- it could have been committed it.

Sure there -- his mother or people speculated his mother was trying to commit him and a.

And that its he's actually the system what little information we have about Adam -- it's just the system was not failing Adam lands on the mental health.

Spectrum there have been stories written about how the fact he was the subject of special attention special help.

When he was in school the school made very good efforts to try and integrate him better they spotted his problems.

You know if it even that explanation kind of fails in a situation like this.

You know there is this effort to try to comprehend something like this that so comprehensible put in some -- fox say that's the fix social wasn't so what.

The -- I talked to -- the sheriff sheriff Perry in a coney county Georgia the other day he was in via Fox Business he's got to play.

And his plan is revenue neutral he says every school in his district -- got a budget for substitute teachers.

Certified his deputies as substitute teachers and hire them.

When they're off duty.

To teach -- class.

And then you've got an armed law enforcement officer in the school -- That's just imagination at least -- that's more novel than some with what we're -- the problem -- we all go to battle stations.

Immediately on on the gun control measures is the kind that are being discussed now on Capitol Hill.

Which you know contrary to name is that description of what happened in Australia.

It wouldn't really do very much that might do something.

-- Look I think.

The tragic did not leap necessarily too good laws if you try to pass a law office shouldn't and leave people with that's based on one terrible thing that happened that is settled here -- -- -- -- an effect of any news.

Plus I think we should step back and say -- I'm perfectly happy and I think the NRA instantly should say let's have a serious debate.

About their current regular registry.

Restrictions on gun ownership their -- registration requirements -- initiatives that it I think.

-- idea and the -- this -- the magazine size he sounds reasonable to me personally this has been studied and maybe there -- obstacles that we don't.

Now about I do think though that.

-- care of the -- -- -- I was much derided for his press conference which was I guess from a PR point of view.

Thought to be a disaster and all that but the truth is he obviously tapped into something when -- -- wait a second let's step back and be sensible -- we're not gonna change the fact that -- a very highly -- on the notion.

Nation and that unfortunately smokers who might be able to get hold of guns.

That's an evil people and is it would have been a terrible thing either to make sure that each school has someone armed I mean either -- teacher who's there Arabian military service who gets trained appropriately credentialed -- someone at the sheriff's deputy was off duty or just teachers there was willing to go.

-- appropriate training I mean I might feel better.

-- apparent and her kids anymore and in in element your -- go to our school that I might feel better if I do that was responsible adults with access to firearms at one of these schools I think appear -- as a political matter as one thought that was just disaster terrible that we generate press I think it was fairly clever in a way I don't.

Proven -- of everything you said but as a matter of changing discussions saying well wait a second what about this other side of the equation.

He may have done some good from suffered for the that's because he believes -- There's a White House study group like a gun control being led by the vice president we learned today that in addition to be renewing the assault weapons ban and and other restrictions on guns they're also going to look at the -- help.

Piece of this and the societal.

Piece of this do you hold out any hope you know that need to do or Charles with a look at this city comprehensive fashion -- Whether it's -- study or something else there is a serious study done about what causes mass shootings.

We don't seem to know because they still don't know what we don't know what we need to know.

I don't know enough enough about what happened in Newton we don't know enough -- -- lands we don't know enough about any of that and -- And I seriously -- -- address the problems you know exactly what.

And I with an ankle going back that I'm Rasmussen poll I think it shows how Smart and the American people arts pretty armed guards on some level in schools.

Is a way to protect schools -- -- for all of these are big complicated.

Solutions even if if if we come to an agreement -- only -- then hadn't played as time has stopped it would seem as if somebody shot -- when he walked in the front door and I.

It's I I've I've.

Agree that some kind of certainly some kind of interim measure because all of these are -- -- talking about years and years before you actually.

Take -- assault weapons for example out of them then.

Blood -- of society here or limit them -- limit there there accessed by mentally ill people and these are all long term solutions let's protect the kids now.

Great discussions this morning thanks all for joining us really appreciate -- please check in with us throughout the week on FOX News Sunday dot com to be sure to tune in next Sunday when Chris Wallace returns and tell them.
