Welcome back to on the -- -- foxnews.com.

Live don't get -- -- Bob Cusack managing editor of the hill.

Our very favorite political publication online and in print one of the few that still in print congratulations on that well I -- you -- good to see.

Happy new year -- to -- I doubt that a lot you know you once it once and the year ended in -- thought well you know have a break and there's no -- up on this.

That certainly -- and that's for sure and we're glad you're here to guide us through it I guess the the big story today and coming up in just about forty minutes.

The nominations by the president we hear all of former senator Chuck Hagel.

-- Defense Secretary and John Brennan currently -- counterterrorism advisor.

As the new CIA chief Chuck Hagel seems to be getting a lot.

All that heat from his own side the Republicans.

Yes that's right San Lindsey Graham not pleased with -- called -- in your face nomination basically he sounds like it a clear no vote.

Against -- eagle also -- on the left senator Schumer.

A week herself did not exactly endorse a possible hagel nomination.

And that congressman -- -- -- -- how she's a top ranking Democrat on the foreign affairs committee doesn't have a vote.

But he called a possible -- nomination very troublesome that because of his stance on Israel so this is going to be a rocky nominations.

Now remember that hey you'll only need sixty -- and that's if the Republicans opt to filibuster him.

Will he likely get it probably but he's gonna have to do well and in the confirmation hearing this is going to be battle Royale I don't think Senator John McCain.

There's going to be supporting -- nomination either.

And what did but all purely on the basis all about -- just some Republicans perceive.

As not being struck a strong enough support up all of Israel and too lenient with the likes of Iran is that what this is based on.

Yes a lot of it on the right is dealing with the -- sanctions bills at a -- -- Through congress and there have been multiple over the years when going back to when -- was serving in the upper chamber.

On the last we -- Congressman Barney Frank who might be appoint an interim senator.

Very critical of -- 1998.

A controversial remarks about a homosexual nominee -- that was nominated by President Clinton.

Barney Frank has -- that -- that back at today.

So he may be voting on I hate a nomination and and -- dialing back of his comments earlier might suggest he's a yes vote.

But these both on the left on those that 1998 comment as well as the right he's taking heat from both sides but is going to be tough to.

To derail -- nomination it is I mean as far as cabinet appointees.

The only nomination that was derailed was the Tom Daschle nomination and he was -- based upon.

And it's tax controversy.

But but if you nominated Whittier and Geithner are Eric Holder.

And that John Brennan as CIA chief a slam dunk or a tough one to.

I think -- -- is gonna bring back the store and I remember those dual investigations there to FBI investigations.

Ongoing about national security leaks at the White House I don't think Brandon is certainly is controversial as fatal.

But at the same time.

Those questions are going to be raised at his confirmation hearings we don't know.

What's been going on with those FBI probes.

But you know in sometime in 2013 we are gonna find out and I'm sure that senator -- ask them.

Whether you know he was doing the leaking.

Does he have any idea of this -- he may say well it's ongoing investigation I shouldn't comment but that's going to be certainly raised I think during his confirmation process.

-- -- I'm an interesting piece in your publication today.

My on the the sort of palace intrigue as I think Chris Christie called it.

-- we Tina has become -- and Eric can turn.

What everything that was going on no but I guess the the fiscal cliff debate and the hurricanes sandy relief package explain what's going -- meant to all.

It was yeah I mean there's there's been about a year ago there was a lot of stories a lot of palace intrigue about tension between now and John Boehner and Eric Cantor and their staffs over the payroll tax in it.

Those stories kind of went away and and their staffs certainly.

Worked better since that point.

But then you had Eric -- speak out against the fiscal -- bill at a what was called a listening session.

On the at a Republican conference meeting John -- -- saying anything on that but -- -- certainly.

-- members told us well eat he really.

Went out strong against it and so.

-- ended up voting no on the senate passed -- bill Boehner voted yes and then after that though.

In an in a move that's surprised everybody is that this in any relief bill was then polled by Boehner cantor was for this annually -- so Boehner.

Basically rejected that said no we're not voting on that tonight then we saw Chris Christie have that unusual.

But entertaining press conference where he called out Boehner any praise -- so you have this -- Republicans are frustrated we talked to members.

Late last week and they're just they're frustrated that once again you have this palace intrigue this drama between the number one Republican in the house in the number two Republican.

In the house and -- sitting at a party that's unified usually wins battles and clearly without an -- house Republicans.

Are very divided right now.

All right -- I'm very quickly the biggest that question of the day in Washington.

I in the wake of my beloved Redskins lost last night should Mike Shanahan have withdrawn -- -- three -- I'm going to go the other way and I'm gonna say.

Now I think that it would have been very difficult to yank -- G three specially.

From just at the standpoint of -- he was winning 1413 -- really tough to pull him out obviously a lot of Monday Morning Quarterback say.

He should have called them.

Now hopefully he's not hurt but the Redskins futures is pretty bright I I just think also too.

The backup didn't do that great in that game so yeah I think I'm not gonna kill Shanahan good point small -- -- thank you very much and as always as the Redskins fan there is always next year.

Bob managing editor they -- great to see you thanks for being here thanks --
