And Rick -- you have covered all sorts of hurricanes and natural disasters and very often people complain about the federal government's response in that that same.
The sentiment has been echoed following super storm CB you say.
And -- a lot of ways it's time for us to wean ourselves off -- explain.
-- started thinking about the fact that when I covered hurricane Andrew -- barely even existed.
It took them weeks and weeks to even get to South Florida -- we essentially had to find a way to fend for ourselves.
At the time I was a television reporter I was among the very first to arrive at the scene in south stayed in that area where -- We're Andrew just devastated landscape it was like a -- -- bomb as I write.

And when I got there -- realize that there was a lot of work that needed to be done and I and thousands of my best friends got together.
It's all the people who live in South Florida and we literally.
Were able to create.
Giant.
Relief effort that moved 60000.
Tons of relief supplies.
That may have very well save people's lives we didn't sit around waiting for FEMA to do it we did it ourselves and that's the point.
Flooding comes down to to taxpayer money really does and mean it it comes down to you and me and it.
Essentially paying.
For the relief for spots right.
That that the problem is that that there's a difference between that need and -- dependence.
And what has happened in our society is.
By the way he was a good thing I'm not arguing against -- and I'm not saying we should get rid of it and I'm certainly not saying it's not the place of the government to help people when they need help.
The problem is we can create at times that I've been noticing the -- ever going back and forth between Christie and Boehner and some of these others.
And that's why I thought Krauthammer Charles Krauthammer was right on the money with -- comment.
The fact of the matter is we create a dependency to the point where.
People won't move won't budge won't help their neighbor won't do anything because -- so conditioned to wait for the government to do it for them.
I'll just give me an example -- my -- living in.
In the New Jersey area for example when it snows are in New York there's a lot of people who have those plows and front of the pickup trucks.
And sometimes they use those plows after -- heavy storm to remove the snow but imagine if after hurricane.
You have one of those that you normally wanna go out and help your neighbors because they have a tree that's fallen and they have lives in front of their driveway.
But rather than take your truck and go and use -- and help your neighbors clear the driveway.
You're gonna sit around and you're gonna wait for somebody for FEMA to write you a check.
Or for the FEMA trucks to come and do it themselves or for you to be contradict contract it out to do it.
See the problem is we really this.
Deeply think about how we let ourselves.
As a society stop doing things for ourselves.
When something like the government creates is huge agency.
That makes us think that they're gonna do it for us and all I'm saying in my piece not to take too long is.
We need to find that combination.
That place it says we can do for ourselves and that which we can't do will rely on the government for.
Not I'm gonna sit on my -- and let the government do everything.
Which is what I fear I'm hearing.
