-- let's -- tech take on May on happier -- it's of the Consumer Electronics Show.
-- in Vegas -- this week it's an extraordinary.
Showcase for all sorts of innovations.
And -- Griffin of -- -- don't call me is that with a particularly interesting innovation I guess in self driving constantly.
-- as Jonathan a self driving car know it sounds a little mind boggling.
But -- Toyota made the big announcement earlier this week with -- eight look a self driving Lexus and it looks like they're moving full steam ahead with this project.
Toyota hopes that this car will become a driver's best friend focus is trying to.
Eliminate accidents for the future.
The car company presented a concept for a self driving Lexus at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas the car and its advanced technology are intended to help drivers better navigate the road.
The vehicle itself is equipped with a broad range of recognition technology.
In the top of it you can see lasers and radar there's GPS systems.
Stereo cameras all that it provides an image of what the vehicle actually see.
Those images can be a red light as far as a 150 meters away.
The -- can also track the speeds and distances of surrounding vehicles that image.
It is then transmitted through some hard judgment technologies that make decisions on how to proceed to make -- -- there and speed up slow down.
But it wouldn't be a good idea to fall asleep behind this -- for Lexus.
-- does not mean driver us our focus is to develop an intelligent.
Virtual co pilot that will be sitting next to you.
Help you along to become a -- driver because -- drivers are safer drivers.
Again it's a bit like he sounded a -- is a virtual co pilot.
There's no timetable long way -- this project will be -- -- no word on the driver listen Lexus revolution coming anytime soon Johnson.
All right -- very interesting is a lot of people I -- on the -- -- should -- I should have a hassle driving down because everybody would be.
Much safe after a definitive foxnews.com.
-- fun out there in Vegas thanks very much -- a -- Kaplan our science and technology editors would mean here.
In the studio Jerry self driving cause it does it sounds like we're not we're not anywhere near that yet well.
You -- tell just how close we are we took a look at the car that he was driving there we had a whole bunch of gear strapped to the roof it was just preposterous looking you'll never drive anything like that.
I think immediately forwards been miniaturized and actually.
Put in the car.
And they have even done that yet because there's still working on making it work properly right but -- the concept is solid I think we're gonna CDs in 56 years I think it's going to be everywhere in ten years really.
I really do any Edwards worked on it there were number of car companies are showing this off.
Google of course has.
Unless you're Google had a car that was driven around by a blind -- right saw -- this is an indication just how.
-- we are really heading that way one and it's gonna happen I'll just.
Until it's done is we've just mentioning the breaking news of the top of the hour about the school shooting.
In -- California heights Taft high school.
We're hearing -- two people have been shot at least.
Jeremy you're mentioning his just before we came on and that you've been talking to.
Some scientists about.
There's little gravity games have they contribute to the violence the violence -- or dollar -- Joe -- if they contribute that's a very good for the very good distinction thank you.
That won't want.
Have they been telling you.
So I spoke with a guy who is one of them who if not the he is certainly one of the most foremost researchers in this field.
And he's done countless studies of the past two decades looking at the connection between video games and violence.
And what that he stressed to me was we can't -- concretely what causes anyone to do any one thing from human behavior is this incredibly complicated thing.
As you would imagine but we can't say very clearly and very consistently is that there's a link to aggression.
Aggressive behavior aggressive actions aggression as a whole is fueled.
By video games by violent video -- that would seem to make a lot of sense that if you if you are in and anybody who's in it and -- aggressive.
One of -- they take home part of that you know whatever wherever it is even if it's only for a short period of time -- the challenges we -- We have to take this very seriously think about this there's a separation between.
Actions and behaviors and -- -- you is what he's trying to make clear track somebody might be more aggressive than somebody else because of this but that doesn't mean the going to do anything.
However if someone has been playing violent video games and then for whatever reason they go out and they commit some horrific act.
That acts might be more violence because this person is more aggressive interest a fine line here and I am not sure what it's that we can -- -- -- didn't videogame industry's.
-- -- -- -- memories that you needed if any reason -- but as you say and and as we you know without without guess we had the other day Susanna Caledonia.
-- who have this -- neurological.
Complaint that lost her a couple of months of -- That that we don't understand how the brain really what's there was so much we don't understand about the -- incredibly complicated calculator that's going on up here and after all the years he's been studying we're only just -- into a little sure.
All right let's -- let's get back to the more positive conversation.
Hopefully back CES what's -- your I.
So this week -- the craziest thing happened just last night.
So CS -- up on Tuesday but Monday's big press day so there's been a couple of days of news and yes there's some big screen TV just has lots of this and that.
But the big news was last night -- cents on the the and get his title correctly Brian Berkeley -- -- Samsung Electronics companies display lab who came on stage and showed for the first time in a very large format.
A flexible screen.
A Smartphone that folds bends flops rules only polls as if you like -- happiest place but if -- -- would not fooled but it doesn't roll off.
And too little -- like this I think there's a distinction.
It's not quite there yet the point where you can folded in half and right Jetsons style put down -- your pocket.
But I really think that they're actually going to release one of these things even -- lineup full mobile screens for years it's just so great to see and this -- was.
Beautiful color green works smoothly I really really want this to happen -- we are we a long way from a do you think I mean everybody always in all winnable and we gonna get that.
-- is one of the world's biggest display manufacturers and they're saying here it is we're getting there right they wouldn't say how much it would cost it wouldn't say when they're going to do it so yes it's still that the research prototype.
But showing something like that off getting people's hopes up at an event like this I think speaks to what how close we are.
Are OK let's get back out to Vegas and -- a check in with shock Bonnie -- -- CEO.
Of the marketing zen group and best selling author of resentment of social media marketing good to see -- -- The great to be here complex -- paying him what I.
What kind of -- social media playing at CES this year.
-- it's absolutely huge we've never seen social media like we're seeing this here.
There you know they're saying a 150000.
Mentioned as CES are happening every -- -- any.
And I and what's really striking about that is that's how many people are are rumored to be here a 150000.
When he when he's being mentioned we told you bank did the mentioned on Twitter is that whether police mentions -- coming.
Exactly -- -- mentions on Twitter people are talking about and fees bug fix isn't going up on into -- So act and to have it.
How does anybody sort of used.
Twitter and hash tags -- -- -- drive.
Traffic to that the -- not to that website necessary but it does specifically into a -- at their at CES.
Isn't it isn't -- to release are to these are interacting with people who are coming into the build.
And the people by the conference not just -- -- -- but also via Twitter so they're saying -- so much for stopping by and you're using the right hash -- -- some -- -- also have their own hash tags aside from the conference hash tag and that's a great way because what exists what other people see that.
Yet others are -- and using certain hash tags there of course their curiosity he's peaked and they want to see what's going on and you're much more likely to go visit that bit.
But I just -- mentioned on put it doesn't necessarily mean you being mentioned.
-- what do you particularly if everybody saying oh my word Booth number 123.
On whatever he's really boring.
Yes instill anything that happens in sadly you're the recipient and gotten the best thing you can do is teach that feedback relative respondents say you know what can we -- to -- to batter if you can't out how -- -- -- really quickly to see how you can increasing decent.
Sadly similar to this happens pre show no longer afford the good people actually coming in Iraq but certainly I think -- -- -- -- -- feedback in real time that's that's very helpful I had some I guess.
You know a lot of -- a lot of people might look at CES and thinking oh my word there's all the nerds in the world wondering -- Vegas a look at Italy's DT.
Databases but he says -- -- very significant showcase.
-- for businesses small landlocked business.
It absolutely is because it's the show us what's coming out in the next six to twelve months and if you watch and observe CES closely you really can't have your pulse on the -- All right -- Bonnie was CEO of the marketing -- joining us from Vegas.
Like to see shot thanks for being here.
A -- I think I don't got Jeremy dead his social media I guess as as important as anything other actual.
Innovations in social media -- -- something like CES -- -- -- more about all the way usually CES is really the gadget show it's about the hard work about the cars and we're talking before the cell phones.
The television sets especially.
But it's always interesting see how.
The the tech leaders are using these this type of technology right did it -- you did is there anybody.
And -- anyone of these sort of gadget company making companies that is particularly good at this social media that you follow along.
Well I don't know if anyone is really and to be honest I'm not always a big fan of the social media for example I think the Twitter stuff.
I find to be incredibly -- more often than not it's just people I think really he's my door and Eric and -- -- don't mind is predictably boring it's a challenge to do this stuff interest thing right but -- 140 characters -- limited there was a keynote speech the other day from CES and it was by the guys instead of Microsoft coming out -- guys from Qualcomm coming up to give the speech.
And more interest in the speech itself was reading what people were saying about them on Twitter because it was kind of -- crazy everything goes speech that we had big bird came out.
There were vampires.
Maroon 5 came -- speech there's a guy dressed in a big bird.
And just reading about it on Twitter was more and more of what exactly was it was this promoting this one big third and that was for a while I'm they make a lot of the chips the going to cell -- are gigantic chip manufacturer right so there kind of talking about innovation and chips but.
Big bird vampire right what the heck is -- -- It was a more entertaining conversation on Twitter that it was a news conference a so so sometimes social media can be a blast even -- -- -- like this.
All right Jeremy stat might wanna get back had -- Vegas once again that there's been a lot of talk of that have tablets such as the iPad it's -- -- I've done causing the deaths all but laptops is it's so Michael Ross Perot is reviews editor with a laptop.
Magazine Michael aren't they good to see Pennsylvania -- -- -- I don't think they're done but you know maybe they're on their way out.
Here at CES -- seeing a lot more tablets especially ones in the gaming space.
For example this on right here is the -- shield its a a little gaming.
What excuse me gaming tablet.
That lets you play -- -- games on your TV and -- like -- clear PC games are on missile device here so we're seeing a lot more inventiveness and the tablets face.
So it didn't tablets are and clearly the flavor of the month until the next big thing comes along I guess which may be the -- all -- -- its tablet that I had -- back.
The phone tablet cross.
But -- -- -- -- is there any way to laptops can how old are intended a laptop makers.
Can or are intending to fight back against this.
Well we're seeing a lot of hybrids actually -- especially with windows eight.
Tablets that actually dock with full sized keyboards so you get.
The sort of a a desktop or a -- like experience with the tablet as well.
Current what's what is so has struck you most at CES in terms of the development of of tablets sat there and and it is they sell holds tablet from a phenomena in gonna come back.
How well they don't want -- as I mentioned one of the things that I really struck me was.
The number of gaming tablets on them are out here at CS.
You know like the one of the Nvidia she'll that I just mentioned.
And also RAZR has a dedicated gaming -- as well.
And so we're seeing a lot more or.
Inventiveness and -- space another thing.
Also we saw as the -- -- but -- set of virtual reality.
I headset basically that really lets you explore space and a whole new way.
And trust it within these gaming tablet so what what's the dollar price on these are they ridiculously expensive.
Well the some of them are -- the the -- AC's meet the our -- tablet is going to be around a grand.
Nvidia hasn't released pricing yet for there is but.
It you know there -- a lot of high performance parts and these things so.
You know the price is not gonna be -- probably north of like the iPad I imagine.
All right okay Michael Ross Perot is reviews editor -- laptop magazine have fun of them Michael great to see you thanks for being in.
Thank you YouTube all right -- -- before I have wrap it up picking up for for me at least.
These these gaming tablets they -- -- -- -- one of the reviews or at an early review was one of the rays -- ones.
Earlier today they seem to be a big deal.
Well an expensive big deal.
Well that that's exactly right -- -- they're they're a lot of very expensive components very high and very fast super super performance things.
But I think they're gonna come with super price tags and the challenges people no one product the super iPad and how do you compete with that we don't I don't think you really compete by making something more expensive.
Right right it's -- -- be -- very tough -- for.
These guys all right Jerry Kaplan science and technology editor with proxies don't -- -- was always Jeremy -- I'm gonna run off because I have to go get ready for a studio B now but there is more coming up up -- this break.
We gonna get back have to Vegas win Kathy Griffin will be talking to move.
Somebody I'm not quite -- who actually because I lost -- piece of paper but he will be talking a backed.
He'll be talking about Pete I shall -- -- tech editor would maximal dot com great website and there are going to be talking about the future of TV -- TVs you wanna stay tuned for that.
I'll see all tomorrow at noon eastern for on the -- state to -- the -- Griffin and more from CE ST tomorrow.
Welcome back detect take.
And -- he wants he's gonna -- about these four KETV's that they're pretty amazing right.
-- -- they're to pretty sharp there is there's a bunch of manufacturers have announced fourteen TDs in court day obviously the next day and beyond any DP which is sort of dove standard penalties now and it's.
Doubles of its account in both directions it's four times the pixels now.
The benefits -- these TVs for normal screen sizes as a little questionable because it's like the pixels get so small you can discern them.
But it's a big screen sizes negativity -- which is mainly what they're being sold as I mean -- you see a different.
And then so Samsung has -- on display.
A -- -- do you know which one stood out you the most based off of those four KGB's.
You know so he has a really good demo it's not just their -- attack they have some -- try luminous technology which improves the -- As well and that's in their -- court case that's so that's a really really hot looking TV you know here's ES every manufacturer has their best.
And brightest and includes literally intermediate and images of TV's doubt.
So it's really hard to choose -- to them but if I had to pick whatever zoning.
Got and then wonder a lot of these models coming out so I'm sure we'll Super Bowls -- on the court.
You know that they could be an opportunity but are they get aren't even gonna be up and you can buy for -- and 84 inch the smaller screen sizes -- That the big announcements I mean.
There -- an analysis of smaller screen sizes of the show 55 inch.
65 -- from a number of manufacturers so that's going to be a little more so that's later in -- but you can -- 84 inch.
Or 85 inch quirky TV today for something like 40000 dollars -- -- now the big big qualification.
There is no fourteen contents yet okay you can actually get movies -- -- -- everything is -- converted either in the TV here in your Blu-ray player.
The one exception is Sony who will be packaging.
A little server with the TVC you can actually watch movies and native -- -- only like about a thousand.
So what do you know when that when there's going to be more media that's more for -- That is -- big question Sony gave sort of an answer they did announce they were playing -- -- distribution system which would.
Basically you download the files -- some an icy winds massive files from the Internet you have to download because there's no way to really -- and let's -- we're right at Google -- something.
But it's it's it's being addressed is very close the -- is very similar to what we solid HD initially went three -- either just wasn't content and.
Content will come.
So we'll just we'll just have to wait and see what thank you so much recruiter for joining us here and will catch you next time on tech take.
Live from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
