Very different views on an issue taking center stage this week as the vice president is set to present his recommendations -- the White House.
On how to put an end to gun violence and -- two days before President Obama is inaugurated gun owners plan to make a statement.
They're not gonna take -- the streets but to gun stores and gun ranges and gun shows the senate president a message to meet the Second Amendment amendment alone.
Spokesperson for gun appreciation day -- hunter joins me now.
You sir for joining us today -- -- for inviting me Shannon I'm delighted to be here all right I gotta say when I first heard about this some of the reaction I got from folks out there talking about -- said.
This -- in the best name for the day may be Second Amendment -- stay why did you choose gun appreciation that.
Because Americans appreciate their guns and they understand the value of the Second Amendment and the the individual firearm -- a symbol of our freedom and our liberty.
And what we're asking people to do is to just come out to -- -- Rangers to their -- stores.
I'll bring their constitutions.
-- flags.
Carry signs and let us celebrate the freedom that we have.
And that is represented down the first and second amendments because guns celebration day usually going to be a celebration.
Of the first and Second Amendment.
Writes we have heard some different suggestions trickling out about what the vice president make presents whether there is any common ground with -- rights advocates and -- -- advocate for more gun control.
-- these recommendations this week is there anything that you've heard so far about background tax -- limiting certain types of weapons.
That you think would be beneficial in anyway or are you more concerned about more limits.
Well.
It is it's a continuation of the slippery slope and then -- -- by a thousand cuts.
And it's been going on since the mid ninety's -- if you go back there's a marvelous clip of senator Dianne Feinstein back.
Right after they pass the original so called assault weapons ban and by the way those are not assault weapons or semi automatics that are not assault weapons.
But after they passed that ban she said that was the best she could get.
And if she'd had her way she would have evolved very and the mall.
Scoop them all up she said -- the -- mr.
and mrs.
America so.
By the daily cost written recently has written that that's the -- agenda is to prohibit a private ownership of firearms.
And so it's very clear that they will take what they can get.
And then come back for more as soon as that's possible.
We are out to defend the Second Amendment -- amendment is a sweeping.
A guarantee of a natural rights.
To own and bear arms and use them in self defense and that's what we're going to celebrated on January 19 and -- I'm that there is a lot of misinformation out there because I know when I tap conversations with people about this particular debate I find in this use of words like assault weapons are folks -- even really knowing what that definition means under the law.
Do you think there needs to be more education for people out there.
Well -- there does and we need to stand down the rhetoric the it just encourages people on both sides to get engaged and -- what's essentially professional wrestling.
-- have an adult conversation.
These read the Second Amendment studying why the Second Amendment was put in there.
Remember this is the Second Amendment second only after free speech religion.
And so the founders took this very very seriously.
This is not an amendment simply to guarantee -- the right to hunt squirrels.
And so yes it's very important that we have an adult conversation.
Stopped.
And ranting and raving.
Over gun violence and of course we all -- gun violence but for example.
What does ask the question why have we seen the mass shootings that we have it's not the law abiding citizens using their guns.
In fact there's a very close connection with psychiatric drugs I have a Forbes column that I wrote this week should be appearing very soon and it draws a connection.
Between the presence of these psychiatric drugs people these so called lone wolf shooters especially the young people.
Who are either on these psychiatric drugs antidepressants or -- -- -- -- from the home.
Well why isn't congress holding hearings on this rather than of pulling the NRA and -- these meetings and brow beating them.
Over exercising a right -- founders guaranteed.
Why don't they invite the pharmaceutical companies into the white else on the Capitol Hill and hearings and what is see if we can find the connection.
Between these psychiatric drugs and the murderous rages that they send -- send some people into.
Right Larry hunter spokesman forgot appreciation day coming up on the nineteenth that many many different angles need to be discussed.
We know there are those who are are planning counter activities to what you have -- we'll see health plays out on the nineteenth thank you for your time thank fusion.
