Let's get some insight now from senior political analyst for him on both of these stories in the overall tone of the president's news conference today.

We have Britain's progress was extended to see the tone in and Tenerife today his last news conference in his first term.

-- you wouldn't think if you heard it and you didn't know when it was he might think that the election campaign was still in full swing.

Mean it was unusually partisan most presidents you know they may make this sort of quiet references to the other party here -- this president is more directly partisan.

Underneath sort of normal circumstances.

Than any president that I can remember.

And I think he senses that the Republican Party is in bad odor was a public.

And and if he can -- that problem for them it softens them up to do things his way.

But it is striking he was strikingly aggressive and partisan.

So what do you think that.

Portends for the debt ceiling negotiations.

Well this is a place where that Republicans have more leverage than they did in the recent fight over the so called fiscal cliff.

What what was the senator that was affected to law already was gonna raise taxes on everybody.

And that was the fact of life Republicans really never could get around which is why they basically you know where to go along for what by the time they voted on it was a tax cut for most people.

The situation is different.

The debt ceiling didn't get raised by itself.

And it has to be done.

And everybody knows it eventually has to be done until the president saluted understand it's not popular step as the president's own vote against it shows.

You know they're trying to extract some spending cuts from as -- president present price for that.

And the president is accusing them wondered Bono who believe delay in the hole when blind in the children and elderly people the -- this is of real partisan brawl.

At one point said that.

Some Republicans are suspicious of social security and Medicare care education children and and and programs to make sure children have enough to eat suspicious of those program -- some remarkably harsh charge and quickly -- on the gun issue.

Just by the tone of some of those answers did you sense that perhaps there's a scaled back version of perhaps of what we were.

Thinking we might see -- of -- gun control has proven in recent times to be remarkably dangerous issue for Democrats.

And it -- repeatedly gotten into political trouble because of passion and devotion of people who care about gun rights is such that they locomotive voted against you if you're wrong on that issue even if you're -- as far as they're concerned and everything else.

They have real intensity.

And Democrats have to be careful what almost always happens in these things -- still be some event.

It will generate a parent support in a large number of people large majority -- of public.

For a major new gun control but it tends to dissipate over time in one sense -- that it's already -- begun to dissipate in the -- isn't it.

-- for thank you good.
