Seven of them Americans.

Greg -- -- is keeping an around that he has the latest from London Greg.

Hey John that is the claim on let's take a look at it it could indeed be the first deadly fallout from the French action.

Against islamists in Molly let's put -- all perspective for you first of all this is Mali in West Africa that's where French troops are going after Islamist rebels.

This is the outfit they're going after al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb it is active threw out.

Northern Africa and here is where we're focusing on the past couple hours Algeria apparently.

Islamic mill militants linked to al-Qaeda came over from Libya and hit a natural gas field wronged by the BP company there in in Algeria.

And then the result is this these numbers or fluid as many as two foreigners reported to be killed may be French may be British as many as eight foreigners reported to be kidnapped French British Japanese you name it and the new claim that we're looking at is as many as 41.

Foreigners taken hostage as many as seven Americans is only coming from the Islamist reporting to one of the media agencies in Africa absolutely no confirmation of that at most times at that site there's only 24 -- total operating at so.

That number and the Americans absolutely not confirmed but we do know this is an ongoing situation we do know the claim is that this is being done.

Because of the operation being run by France against the militants in -- Let's take a look at that little more closely too because there is ground combat action right now that we are hearing from the French government.

The number of French troops on the ground now is about 800 going 125 -- they are moving out.

From the capitol Obama go up to a place called DR -- and that is where the rebels are based and that is where it's face to face.

-- is asking for US help the US tentatively has said it will help with intelligence we transport -- -- refueling that could be fueling.

The anti western attitude among islamists in Africa again.

Perhaps fueling this activity and Algeria but a guy again John the claim is 41 foreigners taken hostage as many as seven Americans -- Absolutely no confirmation of that.

We we hope as as we work it.

Through those numbers come down quite a bit.

-- sounds like a serious situation no matter what the numbers are.

Rebel -- and -- -- thanks thanks.
