Then watch this thing a woman who somehow ended up stuck in the narrow space between two buildings is safe today after a very dramatic ordeal.
Officials say it's not clear how she managed to get wedged in the tight spot.
According to witness -- she may have been smoking something on the roof of the building when she fell.
We're told she spent about four hours and eight to ten -- space before rescue crews were able to cut a hole in the concrete -- I'd be happy to get out -- -- two crews also used a soapy substance to got to make it easier for her to slide out of there.
Whatever rescuers joins us now he is lieutenant rich Chapman from the Portland fire and rescue lieutenant -- I got to ask yet.
What everybody else is asking is what in the world was she going up on that -- smoke and something at 3 o'clock in the morning.
That was obviously our first question to.
To be honest with you though we haven't heard a good answer.
-- really didn't while she was kind of locking the ambulance say hey what what what were you doing looked up at 3 o'clock in the morning looking -- you don't know you don't know -- I act when you get there on scene.
You've got this woman she's trapped in Nvidia ten int space did you did you -- first think maybe we should just plays throughout the top.
Yeah first priority was to figure out what the best method was to get her out of there and and we were hoping that -- that's what we -- do his -- throughout the top.
But just didn't how in -- that space was it was about.
Seven and a half inches that are around her waist and a half inches a -- -- There was no way we were going to be able to to poise throughout with any kind of rope system so it turned out the only option we really had was -- cut through the concrete.
Yeah and actually -- -- the concrete lieutenant I know that you said that the concrete dust was causing a problem for her breathing C had to stop for awhile reassess.
And then give her some kind of a breathing mask.
Did that alleviated the problem and then how long did take it actually cut through.
Yeah the the good concrete dust and their carbon monoxide that's created by the chain -- circular saws that we are using.
Was that a major concern of ours.
We were able to use -- detection device to make sure that air quality there was good.
But as far as the overall time that -- -- and this is one of the reasons why this was not our first choice for getting around.
Was probably around three hours.
-- three hours I notice in the -- had a puts an air bags in there you were hoping the air bags and cutting give you a little bit more wiggle room in there is that right.
Yet I was actually a backup plan that we had was to move those air bags are akin to lift a lot of ways so.
We're open a way to few of those in maybe just give us that last full half -- that we need to together to squeeze out.
So you're -- you're the whole time -- know.
She's cold and I know you guys tried -- -- and Blake it's in there and pumped in some propane heat.
What she's saying you're talking or -- had a king she is she freaking out a little bit.
I got I have to give her a lot of credit she -- them amazingly calm throughout the process.
And cooperated.
Quite a bit at the end especially.
It in being motivated enough -- to help us.
Get her out of what was an incredibly narrow spot.
I know you self you're up there and you kind of -- -- out and that picture really was great I've heard just kind of beyond that the fist shake what she said.
I'm -- to repeat that over time what.
When you when you pulled her out of their lieutenant you know right at the very -- -- -- -- come -- she did that that -- -- and she was so excited what was -- saying there -- we couldn't quite hear.
Yeah.
You know though that the whole -- -- probably last.
Six inches that that it took to get -- out there.
She was here is pretty funny she was she was very very determined.
Like -- -- we have some backup plans -- we were thinking about using.
It and she made it very clear that we will we were commuting back up plan -- did not -- them.
So when we finally got her free I think she did like a little dances she finally got outside of the hole.
And then on -- Daniel -- It really was just an amazing story -- had a rich -- from the Portland fire department great study guys did a great job and thanks very much for coming on.
Think you.
