CA eye institute in gun buyback programs.

We offer money concert tickets sneakers anything to get guns off the street.

No questions asked.

I'm joined now by pastor and his Tate who regularly does a gun buyback program in Cincinnati.

And -- Rattner a lobbyist for the Arizona State rifle and pistol association.

Who says that the gun buyback programs don't work.

So gentlemen thanks for being with me this evening I'm gonna start with -- -- tape.

You were involved in the gun buyback program I was fascinated by what I read about your program that you wore.

You believe in this so strongly.

That you were willing to put on -- own charge card money that you needed to give people you know cash or -- target to get their guns why do you believe in this so strongly.

I believe in life I believe that -- the efforts that we've made here in Cincinnati -- a milestone for us.

A one of the things that are very important is that we raise the awareness about gun safety.

And one of the things that we have done is just to let people know but it is not about challenging the Second Amendment.

It's not about challenging their right to have guns but it is about.

Raising awareness whether or not that gun is the perfect thing and investing they have -- house.

Where their children who may or may not have access to those guns who may or may not end up in a tragedy.

And that the time you are.

In Arizona and you objected to.

What is at the destruction of guns and a gun buyback program you feel that those guns should be what put back on the street.

What Walt thank you for having me judge people what we think is is that when when the city takes property.

We we don't have a problem with Bob buyback that is funded by private funds and run by by private organizations what we have a problem with.

Is when the city takes in an asset like that and then simply destroys it.

When our state law the Arizona State law says that those firearms must be sold to a federally licensed firearms dealer.

And then they can be sold back to the public good so without it you would have to hopefully background check.

-- you wanna get these guns back in the circulation.

Pastor should these guns go back in the circulation what should happen to them.

Well if if people are turning them -- today and I believe that once we turn him over to police department -- police department know all of the laws they know whether or not they should go back in the circulation.

I just believe if they always have turned him in and they've submitted them.

Then I think they should be destroyed and they brought them in for that reason otherwise they would have sold them.

Or are taken into a place where they could exchange them for cash but bringing them to us means OK everyone has gone on this -- street.

Yet but but but generally if you perspective of what happens afterwards -- so many studies in so many people I don't happen to believe it.

Not that think that these gun buyback program serve absolutely no purpose that they have at best way out one to 2% impact on the gun violence in our country.

And they feel that most of these guns -- already broken or they weren't gonna be used anyway that a real criminal isn't that a -- for the fifty or -- hundred bucks we give them top what do you think about that.

Well I think that's true I mean if you look at the guns the 200 guns that were turned in.

Based on reports that I had from people that were on the scene that we're watching that no guns.

There that -- was basically junk guns and parts of broken things that were turned in and and would.

-- that no drug dealer or or psychopath it's gonna hurt people with a firearm is gonna turn an -- for fifty dollar gift card.

To -- it's just not gonna happen.

And you know what you what you are seeing is possibly families that don't want the gun in the house and that's -- that's fine if they want to turn it in and get a fifty dollar gift card I don't really have a problem with that okay what I have a problem with this is the city destroying it in violation of Arizona State law.

Actually I -- -- but.

But gentlemen I I I and I agree -- both of you -- I think it's worth that if we get one gone off the street.

Irrespective of what the law dictates that we do after we get them.

Todd -- and -- -- thanks so much for being with us this evening.

Thank you thank you for -- all right coming up.
