The State Department today confirm that last week's hostage standoff.

At a gas plant in Algeria did kill three Americans.

According to the Algerian prime minister the militants included two Canadians and a team of explosives experts who had planned to blow up the place.

The prime minister also said the military operation to free those hostages resulted in the deaths of dozens of prisoners -- nearly thirty of the militants.

You'll recall just last week the militants stormed the facility near the Libyan border according to the Algerian state television company they claimed the attack was payback.

For Algeria letting French jets use its airspace to attack attack Islamist fighters in neighboring Mali.
