Eighteen year olds can vote and serve their country in the military but according to most drinking laws they cannot.

Consumed alcohol well now one Colorado lawmaker wants to put a stop to that he's pushing a plan to allow people eighteen and older.

To party like they're 21 but only if their parents accompany them which of course is not -- fun.

So who should drinking decisions really be up to the parents or the governments let's debate this.

Here is the author of -- -- second guessing yourself guide to parenting and mommy blogger just -- Dolly also joins us from Los Angeles ladies thanks for being here.

Thank you.

Jessica -- let me start -- you you like the idea of allowing eighteen year olds to drink in public.

In their parents presidents lie.

Absolutely because of you know all the research is telling us.

That -- pivotal moment with kids drinking comes from the parents.

I'm gonna have my kid turns sixteen and throw the keys of the car and go here any drive.

Anymore than I'm gonna have her turn to one you want and candor bottle of vodka and -- go OK good -- -- he's.

They -- I mean basing your argument that they need some practice and it's good to be -- to practice with your parents -- Do you like that idea -- now while personal you know any eighteen year old really wants to ride drinking when mom and dad I'm not so sure about that.

Listen what you're saying is you can have a beer with data on Friday which -- can't have one with your friends and Saturday night it's a conflicting message.

Either lower the drinking age for everybody or wait 120 want.

Okay just who would be set up that that you're getting a mixed message if you say -- you can drink one night and you can't drink the next night in the laws and his.

In reality the world is full of mixed messages now.

The other reality is is that in 29 states miners already canned drink with their parents.

The only thing that this changes is that they can drink with their parents in establishments that serve liquor that are not.

Private residence says so this is already happening.

Yeah -- you making a point in fact in Colorado where this state senator is proposing this it is legal to drink at home.

Read your parents if your parents or supervising yet they can serve alcohol to their children at home -- is that okay.

I also don't think that's a great idea a very mean and we're putting into the parents hands.

Things that.

Maybe shouldn't be I mean I'd love for my fifteen year old to drive would make my life a lot easier.

But I can't take his in New Jersey -- it's seventeen to drive.

There are laws for a reason so.

Don't leave it up to the parallel.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Hey it's absurd to say that there's laws for a reason there are a lot.

-- laws against spitting on the ground but let me tell you something if you've ever gone for a ten mile run you've spent on the ground.

Now the reality is is that 67%.

Of American teenagers.

Have been shrinking.

So do you want to learn it from their friends or would you like yeah.

Just sit down with Yale and have a burger and a beer and say that -- no honey.

-- the past half of that.

-- don't have a second one and see how that feels so that kids know that.

Drinking can happen without it being a -- -- we can not expect that at you you don't get to make rules for your 21 year old -- are long gone by that Jenn very quickly.

You don't like the parents having -- -- -- prerogative here.

I think you can teach without showing I mean you teach them sex Ed without showing right.

On that no way I think that.

I was -- that I -- I think.

-- can't demonstrate putting on condoms so I am I.

I went back to -- -- there could be segment of a different turn than Iowa.
