Again we heard from a student.

Who witnessed all of the gunfire she talked about hearing shots fired and then hearing witnesses crying in some desperately trying to make phone calls.

On their phone she said you know -- as we hear from so many.

I think everyone should -- Obviously be concerned about those who are victims and also the students the district the student and I can demand and out of fear and apprehension technically panic that they are experienced right now this is a trend curve community content place if it.

Aren't occasions to speak to -- faculty and their student.

But this particular authority and at this moment I reaching out to the leadership but I do know -- campus but I do know that they -- probably on rock camp.

What we've heard and of course.

That it is still -- Active shooting.

And we recognize that people have been injured and there is some suggestion.

But I hesitate.

And we started getting these messages.

This is a college campus -- tranquility and -- the wooded area of north Harris County.

It is a place.

Bring diversity.

It is a place to -- you have the kind of student to work and go to school.

Interestingly enough I was that they used gun prevention summit.

To the sheriff's office as we speak and also the leadership post on campus.

School shooting we understand that.

We are better prepared for an emergency thanks to the many men and women here to serve you that tells me that they have had some of these emergency drills because in this climate.

Every school has to be prepared sadly for something like us.

I think prepared because the campus it's a large 200 acres and a number of different -- are that they do to have courses for firefighters.

And for a first responders such -- law enforcement.

You're able to come in and get additional courses or prepare yourself of those professions they are very sensitive they're also a camp that -- who brought on technology.

But you can never -- -- are what happens with a combination.

Again this is not a time to -- partly I wanted to speak specifically about my concern for the right.

And safety of those who have in harm's way and then I want to again.

Let it go back to finding a way to -- these kinds of -- is what our product campuses where again people on both.

Adults were there to learn whether -- -- Karr -- campaign.

But whether it be any elementary school.

Middle school or high school I'd rather be out communities we've got to find a way to peace -- Yes of course we understand your position.

On that yes and they're 28000 undergraduate students who go to.

Harris -- -- as you said many of them are commuters are part time students while they're working 65% in fact.

Are part time there 282 professors we don't know how many.

Of any of those were on campus when these shots rang out but we have heard.

From witnesses just how terrifying it was there were people crying she described -- a stampede.

And it was another student who witnessed several people injured or at least two I should say a couple of people.

Injured and he stops to help them he stopped to try to care for -- on his best.

He can he wasn't a doctor -- -- -- student and he says that he later found out that from the police.

That one of them was actually the suspect have you heard from many of the local hospitals in your district as to how many people are being treated.

That we don't have and I can't my office my district office.

-- and to try to get as much information as possible but here in Washington.

I am reaching out to.

The leadership on campus are expected.

Some will be able to respond and give the -- -- that's -- and then the local law enforcement as well as I speak to do my immediate -- next -- The detainees or returned to meet even though -- at this period of active shooter situation.

We understand that this email alert went out at 1252 and it said.

North Harris is locked down students faculty and staff are -- immediate shelter where you are do not enter the -- -- -- told notified further we heard from the public information officer of Harris County.

That there are that now schools and administrators do have to be trained in active shooter drills and it sounds like.

The emergency alert system worked well it went out right as soon as the gun shots.

Were fired it this emergency alert went out.

So that parents or students or people -- on campus and professors.

Were able to stay where they were and to notice something bad was going down Odyssey.

It's cold comfort.

The -- emergency system.

Is working we wish that it.

It didn't have to work we wish that emails like this didn't have to go out.

But again I guess that that is the silver lining from so many of these incidents happening over the past decade that now schools know how to do it.

In -- and enormously balance point.

We -- both wish not to be speaking about this tragedy.

But I think we have -- now on the tragedy at Virginia Tech if you're.

One of the issues -- the verification of the campus ambling.

Our campuses have now Abu.

Substantially.

-- authority and notification process being really good but excellent.

But I believe saved -- would save a lot of prize which is stand down stand in place particularly into the campus do not into the campus at this time.

-- against the law enforcement sort of an unfettered opportunity to be able to find who the perpetrators aren't victims.
