It's very rare to have a Christian album topping the billboard charts.

But that's just what singer Chris -- has done his brand new album bright lights is only -- fourth.

Ever to enter the chart at number one.

Grammy winning singer and songwriter Chris Tomlin joins us now from DC -- press.

Hey thanks for having me thanks so much for being wit us or does he give you the fourth ever to enter Christian album to enter the charts at number one why do you think it's.

-- hard in the past for Christian albums to be number one.

Yeah I don't know I mean and.

It's the music is.

I mean in music and people are making great music so many great artists and make an amazing music guys think would do anything.

Like that takes an amazing team and I think -- -- this team is what's incredible and to be a part of this amazing team this kind of home.

You know it's been years and years -- didn't had this -- this enough first trip it has been years of building I think had just billion.

That people come to love the music and so it's quite an honor you know it's hard to share that with that because it's a pretty rare I -- in Christian music yeah.

Is -- -- your very modest.

Obvious it's against.

-- your whole team and I'm sure that that's valid but do you think that there's something about your lyrics that is the secret to your success.

Well you know I try to write songs that.

Give voice to people to worship god that's -- I've been doing since I was a kid actually and just try to write songs in a way that help people.

To express your faith you know trying to -- songs of faith.

And I think that we live in a world of fear and that's not our story.

Our story is a story of faith and that's of these songs are about and hopefully -- people to lift people up lift their spirits up there.

Anchors I know that you think that music can have such a chilling effect -- be so powerful I agree review -- I want ask.

What you think about this study out of the Netherlands.

It followed adolescent kids and what kind of music they listen to and they found that kids who listen to what they called unconventional music.

Basically alternative they met hip hop metal goth punk techno house music.

-- they began to become delinquents they determined.

By about age sixteen whereas kids who just listen to sort of more mainstream stuff pop jazz classical.

Music didn't have behavioral problems -- you think that's about.

You know I think that it preferred.

I think there's a true principle and that what you put in.

Is what comes out and I think that's pretty true that all black I think there's nothing that music is like.

The most powerful -- form that he gets to the -- so quick I mean it's faster than any -- You know and that that is it so it doesn't surprise me because.

There's nothing more powerfully -- that in here any inside your heart is that you're so no matter what if you think that's really happen or not that is what's happening in.

You know what he would -- what comes -- goes in easily comes out.

I want to talk about causes dear to your heart you are part of cynical and it.

And did not human trafficking I was stunned to read that there are 27 million people around the globe.

Who are slaves it's the human traffic and and many of those in the US.

Yeah it's crazy you know the think today we live -- time.
