We'll just call it a poor job amid calls in the house to bring back -- marks -- two senators are pushing to wipe it out for good.

-- Claire McCaskill and a Republican Pat Toomey re introducing a bill that would ban or permanently.

The move is not getting widespread support in this latest session.

This -- senator to me on what he does to get around senator.

Good afternoon -- What do you what do you make to the resistance -- down.

Well you know.

It's going to be a battle it always is but we've made a lot of progress in the first last congress.

Senate Republicans adopted a moratorium on all earmarks and the democratic senators responded in kind.

Now for this congress senate Republicans have already adopted a moratorium.

We haven't heard from the Democrats yet.

So -- I am worried about backsliding that's part of the reason I'm introducing this bill.

The earmarks are by their very nature.

And abuse of of and and and avoidance of of the weight taxpayer dollars got to be protected.

And then of course it and they just escalated totally out of control last few years so.

I cannot be our have to keep working as we've got some new members are going to be very supportive of this guys like Jeff flake from Arizona and Ted -- from Texas and others so.

I'm cautiously optimistic now.

You know on base -- united Marxist -- just on something else -- earmarks.

That happens sometimes but there's no question that the number of their -- dropped enormously in the last congress with the moratorium in place can I tell you there wasn't a single.

-- -- anywhere no I couldn't guarantee that.

But there were thousands and thousands of these in individual bills.

Before we got this moratorium in place now I -- really scrub pretty hard to find a single one so I just want to make this thing and turn in this really isn't -- -- sandy I mean.

There was talk full mine -- you pointed that out the fact that matters it got.

Chris Chris in New Jersey buried side because he understood there was subordinate but does he said that greater good offset the events ultimately.

Even well I'm now -- in a new congress send that that's the danger you're absolutely right this is why we need to -- legislative -- The American people get this they don't send people to congress anymore to see how much you can spend.

They -- -- see how much we can say if people get that we're in a really bad place fiscally and wasting money on is indefensible projects is really got to hand.

-- -- trouble that that message didn't get to the president because he.

Only mentioned deficit once in his speech he never mentioned debt and all of -- management.

In the L that there wasn't enough message about economic growth there was certainly no acknowledgment over the overspending.

This president doesn't think we do overspend.

That's.

Very sad.

And very difficult situation but hey we've got to do what we can in congress if we can avoid sending -- -- bills it's you know it's hard for him to -- things in them.

-- we got to fight this on all fronts because we're not on a sustainable fiscal path and we've got to get there for the sake of our economy and our future.

You're in the minority -- in the senate and set -- is already talking about.

-- total budget but when apple has still more tax increases community.

Well -- one of the good things is it's hard to do things like that in the senate if you don't have a pre existing law that does it for you and they don't have that anymore.

So I think we're done with the revenue discussion that's over.

Now it's about getting spending under control and I think Republicans are going to be pretty united on this I hope.

Very united.

Because we.

We need to save this country from the fiscal ruin that that awaits us if we stay on this road what do you -- happened to your fellow Republicans like they lost their back.

Well I don't know about that and you know -- I I think that when I didn't talk to my fellow senators there's there are really strong resolve to make some progress on this front.

We got big battles coming up I think we've got to make sure that the savings of the sequestered stays in place I hope we can shifted around a little bit.

But we can't spend more than that.

And when the continuing resolution expires the law that funds the government through march.

We've got to make sure that a continuation doesn't occur at a higher spending level we just can't afford that.

I think my colleagues on our side of the aisle will will be engaged in that fight to preserve those things.

But we're going to be battling a president who wants ever more spending so.

We'll we'll see how it plays out time we will senator thank you very much good seeing you again thanks for having else.
