Changing -- Nebraska to the governor they're signing off on a new plan that could put the long stalled.

Keystone Pipeline back on track.

The new -- designed to avoid the area that had environmentalists against -- the pipeline which would carry a big 100000 barrels of oil a day out of Canada.

A group of lawmakers now urging President Obama to give the plan a thumbs up -- the White House saying not so fast on that.

The State Department is -- conducting its assessment.

As.

Appropriate -- -- has been standard over the years.

On behalf of the federal government and I don't want to get ahead of that process you know when State Department has.

Something doing move forward on what will obviously address that issue and when it does.

The governor of Nebraska has a big say in this that's Dave Heineman he's with me live now governor good morning to you.

Good morning -- I give us an idea about how the new -- is changed things.

Well it's changed a lot my state because that was the key issue the route going -- the environmentally sensitive sand hills area.

TransCanada agreed to mood around that we -- for informational hearings they moved a little father after that made those adjustments.

And I just received about three weeks ago in 2000 page document review unit indeed tell.

If you look at are they -- ability to reduce our dependence on foreign oil -- does that.

Economically it's good news for our country and our state in terms of jobs.

And the environmental impact as stated in the report it would be minimal so I approve the route.

It let me just add one thing to help you annoy your viewers this was coordinated with president Obama's department -- state.

They were -- -- all along the way they've been nor for informational hearings they've been -- -- public hearing.

They know everything that's going on it is really now time to act.

Certainly by the end of this quarter they -- -- Interesting now you heard the inaugural address earlier in the week about climate change.

And you heard John Kerry's testimony yesterday -- he's gonna have a big part in this when he when he -- secretary of state.

Now John Boehner saying the White House has no choice but to agree with this decision that you have made.

But will that.

I don't know for sure but I would just say the president's decision is what's in the national interest of our country.

Well when you think about job creation and energy independence of protecting the environment.

All of that is done with this round so to me he's at a stage where he could -- prove it and should approve it.

Again I don't want -- taken sixty days to review -- I understand that.

But let's don't let we shouldn't have this go along the entire year it is really now time.

For the president's it's a lot of jobs and it goes right to the heart ever energy policies you would argue film left considers this product dirty oil.

What do you say to that.

I say that look at -- look at the big picture this is about energy independence you know what I've talked.

Young men women and -- we're defending our country in the Middle East because the war well.

I don't want him over there for those reasons if we can reduce our dependence.

On Middle Eastern oil will be a lot savers -- country economically national security wise.

So again we can move this oil.

Relatively safety safely that doesn't mean there won't be just -- it could be localized you could never say.

There won't be any spills but again the report suggests it would be minimal in nature.

And you said the company TransCanada it would be responsible for.

For for cleaning up any potential oil spill or if indeed that happens that your critics are saying you flip flop on this issue you're against it -- -- four what do you say to them.

They I say re read the letter I sent over a year and a half ago it was about the -- at the time the federal government wasn't listening listening.

It was going to go directly through the environmentally sensitive sand hills area I call a special session we got new legislation.

It now goes around the environmentally sensitive sand hills area.

That was the key point for most of rescues we've got that accomplished so -- -- change and that's why we've been able to move forward it's if.

Fascinating issued -- watch as we look at the map one more time -- Dave -- thank you the governor of Nebraska as you stated you expect a decision.

By the end of march and it's something we're watching we're gonna bring it back when we get close of that -- thank you governor.
